DDR5 Memory Prices in Germany Soar to 410% of July Rates, Dashing Expectations of a March Price Drop

Recent trends indicate that DDR5 memory prices are unlikely to decrease in the near future, as the small respite in pricing witnessed in Germany was short-lived.

DDR5 Memory Kits Experience Price Increases in April Following Last Month’s Decline

The DDR5 memory market has not provided any significant relief, despite some stabilization in recent weeks. Reports indicate that consumers may face further price increases in the upcoming months. Last month, we highlighted a noteworthy decrease in average DDR5 prices in Germany, marking the first decline since July 2022. Unfortunately, this temporary dip appears to have been just that—temporary—leading to a re-adjustment in prices without any prospects for additional decreases.

Currently, the average price of DDR5 RAM kits is approximately 410% higher compared to levels recorded in July 2022. Though this isn’t the peak observed—prices soared during January and February—March did showcase a marked reduction. Just when it seemed that a trend of declining prices was emerging, recent retail figures have contradicted this optimism. The observed price drop was merely an adjustment, aligning with trends seen in global retail prices.

A table displaying DDR5 memory prices from July to April, showing a trend of price increases with a total increase of up to '+367%' for certain models, and a monthly average price index increase of '+310%'.

It’s important to note that the average DDR5 price figures from Germany don’t capture the complete spectrum of market behavior. While some DDR5 kits experienced slight price cuts, the 2x 48 GB DDR5-6400 version saw the most significant hike. Although it’s commonplace for larger capacity kits to experience more pronounced price increases, this isn’t a steadfast rule. Notably, certain 16 GB and 32 GB DDR5 kits have also surged in price more dramatically than their 48 GB counterparts.

The data provided by 3D Center is sourced from retail pricing of various DDR5 kits monitored across a range of German retailers, offering a reliable snapshot of Germany’s DRAM market. While these insights may not fully represent the global DRAM scenario, similar pricing dynamics are being observed in North America and other regions. Experts predict that DDR5 prices are likely to remain steady in the short term, though volatility in the memory market may linger for several more years.
