AMD’s highly anticipated dual X3D processor is reportedly making its way to various retailers, hinting at an imminent launch, even though the company has yet to officially set a release date.
ASUS’s Tony Accidentally Reveals AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual X3D Chip
As we await the arrival of AMD’s new flagship Zen 5 processor, exciting developments have surfaced. During the recent CES, AMD hinted at the new chip’s release, but details remain sparse. A notable discovery arose when Tony, ASUS’s General Manager for China, tested the newly launched AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D. This review, however, unintentionally unveiled a critical detail about an even more powerful variant, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2.
In a tweet from @9550pro, it was pointed out that a folder named 9950X3DV2 was visible on Tony’s test system. This discovery raises questions about the official name of the processor, potentially differing from speculation that it might be called the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2. It’s evident that Tony is already exploring the capabilities of this new flagship AMD Zen 5 processor.

The rumored AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 retains the same powerful 16-core/32-thread architecture as its predecessor, the 9950X3D. However, a significant upgrade is the inclusion of an additional X3D L3 cache chiplet on the second core complex die (CCD).This innovation positions it as the first processor to feature 64 MB L3 cache chiplets across both CCDs, resulting in a total cache size of 192 MB—a noteworthy increase from the 128 MB seen in the 9950X3D. Expected performance includes a maximum boost clock of 5.6 GHz, which is just slightly lower than the 9950X3D’s peak, while the base clock remains identical. Integrated graphics power comes from 2 compute units built on the RDNA 2 architecture.
While the thermal design power (TDP) is rumored to hit 200 W—about 30 W more than the previous model—confirmation from AMD is still awaited. Some early benchmarks have hinted at substantial performance improvements over the 9950X3D, particularly in multi-threaded tasks, but the gaming performance metrics remain a focal point for eager tech enthusiasts.
