Apple is rapidly advancing its initiative to incorporate OLED technology across most of its product lines, marking a significant shift from its reliance on mini-LED displays. This year, the redesigned M6 MacBook Pro will debut with OLED screens, breaking new ground. Notably, this technology is not confined to Apple’s high-end devices; a recent report indicates that within the next two years, Apple plans to integrate OLED into five distinct product families. Upcoming OLED Products from Apple: iPad Mini 8 as the Forthcoming Launch
With an end to LCD in its latest models, Apple’s prominent supplier, Radiant, stands to gain significantly from both established and new display technologies. According to a comprehensive report by DigiTimes, Radiant is planning for sustained growth, highlighting the timeline for OLED integration into various Apple devices from 2026 to 2028.
“Apple has long used OLED panels in iPhones and Apple Watches, and in 2024 began introducing the technology to iPads. Between 2026 and 2028, OLED is expected to extend gradually to iPad mini, MacBook Pro, iPad Air, iMac, and MacBook Air models.”
As previously noted, the M6 MacBook Pro will be the inaugural product to feature tandem OLED technology. However, consumers should anticipate a premium price for this upgrade due to enhanced display capabilities, the introduction of touchscreen features, and a refreshed hinge design exclusive to the M6 Pro and M6 Max variants. Additionally, Apple is expected to unveil the new iPad mini 8 later this year. Unlike its predecessor, the iPad mini 7, the upcoming model, scheduled for a Q3 or Q4 2026 release, will be powered by LTPS OLED technology rather than LTPO.
Samsung is reportedly the sole supplier of OLED panels for the iPad mini 8. The company has recently begun mass production of 8.6-generation OLED panels, which will also be utilized in the M6 MacBook Pro lineup. The transition to OLED for the MacBook Air is anticipated, though it may take significantly longer, with reports suggesting that the introduction of this technology to Apple’s budget-friendly laptops could be pushed back until 2029.
While Apple is keen on advancing its OLED offerings, several factors influence the timeline of this transition, particularly the preparedness of its supply chain and the cost structures negotiated with suppliers.
