Apple has officially launched a series of significant software updates, namely iOS 26.3, iPadOS 26.3, watchOS 26.3, tvOS 26.3, visionOS 26.3, HomePod Software 26.3, and macOS Tahoe 26.3.
Apple Unveils iOS 26.3 and Updates for Multiple Devices
The newly released iOS 26.3 includes a host of changes and enhancements derived from earlier beta versions:
New Features Included in iOS 26.3
Limiting Precise Location
A standout addition is the “Limit Precise Location”feature, which restricts a carrier’s ability to track a user’s location to the neighborhood level, rather than the exact street. Initially, this functionality is supported by the following carriers:
- Germany: Telekom
- United Kingdom: EE, BT
- United States: Boost Mobile
- Thailand: AIS, True
This feature is compatible only with devices featuring the custom C1 or C1X modems.
Simplified Switch from iPhone to Android
The iOS 26.3 update also facilitates a seamless transition from an iPhone to an Android device. As reported earlier, the Android Canary 2512 build for Pixel phones features a collaboration between Google and Apple to streamline this process.
An APK teardown has confirmed that this feature becomes active during device setup, enabling users to transfer various personal data, including:
- Photos and videos
- MP3 and other audio files
- Contacts from the device or cloud, including iCloud
- SMS, RCS messages, and iMessages, including media and attachments
- Documents and downloaded files
- Calendar appointments, whether stored locally or synced
- Apps that are free and matched to those on Google Play
- WhatsApp chat history
- Voice memos
- Notes
- Call history
- Home screen layout and custom wallpapers
- Device settings such as:
- Alarms
- Saved Wi-Fi networks
- Font size preferences
- Screen timeout settings
However, it’s important to note that the following items cannot be transferred:
- In-app purchases
- Specific device settings, like Wi-Fi passwords
- DRM-protected music
- Safari bookmarks
- Paid or unavailable apps on Google Play
- Some app data that isn’t stored in the cloud
This update marks Apple’s introduction of this switching feature, complete with options for initiating it via a QR code or pairing code session.
Notification Forwarding to Third-Party Devices
Another exciting feature in iOS 26.3 is the ability to forward incoming iPhone notifications to third-party wearable devices. This shift signals a reduction in the restrictive ecosystem that Apple has historically maintained around its devices, especially under the scrutiny of EU antitrust regulations.
iPhone users will have control over which apps can send notifications to these third-party devices; however, only one wearable can be connected at a time. Therefore, activating this feature for a different wearable will disable notifications on the Apple Watch.
Additional Updates Across Apple Platforms
In addition to iOS 26.3, Apple has rolled out corresponding updates for iPadOS 26.3, macOS Tahoe 26.3, watchOS 26.3, tvOS 26.3, HomePod Software 26.3, and visionOS 26.3, ensuring a cohesive enhancement across its extensive line of products.
