Grand Theft Auto 6 is shaping up to be one of the most eagerly awaited video games set for release on consoles this year. After enduring two significant delays, anticipation has only intensified, and many fans are excitedly preparing to immerse themselves in a new chapter set in the beloved Vice City.
However, recent reports indicate a surprising development that may dampen the excitement for eager collectors. According to a report from PPE, a Polish publication with a history of reliable information, Grand Theft Auto 6 will launch exclusively in digital format.
The report details that a source familiar with video game sales in Europe indicated that publisher Take-Two Interactive is not planning to release a physical edition of the game at launch due to concerns about potential leaks related to the storyline and gameplay. Instead, a physical version may be available several months after the digital release, with speculation about whether it might appear within weeks of launch or only in the first half of 2027.
Another insider mentioned, “We’re receiving mixed messages; some suggest the physical version could arrive three to four weeks post-launch, while others believe it won’t appear until early 2027.”Fans can anticipate more clarity on this issue in February.
The prospect of Grand Theft Auto 6 being offered solely as a digital release has understandably disappointed many gamers. Nevertheless, with the trend of popular titles often being obtained before their official release, it’s not particularly surprising that Take-Two is opting for this approach to safeguard what could be the largest entertainment launch ever, maximizing profits through a digital-only strategy.
It remains to be seen whether this decision will impact the possibility of a Collector’s Edition at launch, which could still include a digital voucher alongside various collectible items. However, the appeal of such an edition would certainly be diminished without a physical copy of the game.
