Fishing in Crimson Desert: A Guide

Fishing in Crimson Desert offers players an engaging way to diversify their ingredient inventory, enabling them to create more elaborate meals or even generate a bit of extra income. Surprisingly, the game does not provide clear guidance on how to fish, and many players may take considerable time before discovering this feature.

This guide will walk you through how to fish in Crimson Desert, detailing where to acquire a fishing rod and instructions on casting your line effectively.

If you’re eager to start fishing, the quickest route is to purchase a fishing rod. Head over to the provisioner’s shop located in Hernand, which is situated east of Oakenshield Manor. You can buy a rod for just 15 pieces of copper. Many provisioners across the game, including those found in Demeniss and Tashkalp, also have fishing rods for sale, so you won’t need to backtrack to Hernand if you’re in those areas.

While it’s possible there may be quests that reward you with a fishing rod—similar to other tools like axes—this information hasn’t been confirmed through our exploration.

Fishing involves a series of steps, and the process can feel somewhat unpredictable. In Crimson Desert, the fishing rod functions as a ranged weapon. To get started, access your equipment menu and equip the fishing rod in the slot typically reserved for your bow or another ranged weapon. Next, approach a nearby body of water and hold down the button that corresponds to ranged combat.

Once you’re positioned, direct the cursor to your desired casting location and release the button to cast your line. When you wish to retrieve the line or move to a different spot, simply press the button again. This allows you to maneuver the line, reel it in, or stop the fishing activity altogether.

When a fish bites, press RT/R2 (or your keyboard’s relevant key) to hook it. You can release this button after the initial press. To reel in your catch, rotate the right analog stick (or follow the keyboard prompts) while moving the cursor in the opposite direction of the fish’s movements. If the fish pulls left, shift your cursor to the right, and vice versa. Eventually, you’ll manage to reel in the fish or, unfortunately, snap the line.

Initially, the fishing line is quite fragile, which may lead to some initial frustrations. However, perseverance is key—before long, you’ll find your inventory full of fish. Consider upgrading your fishing rod for better results and enhanced durability.
