Turn-Based Tactics Game “STAR WARS Zero Company” Set in the Clone Wars Arriving Next Year

Exciting Reveal of STAR WARS Zero Company at Celebration Japan

As anticipated by fans, the new turn-based tactics game STAR WARS Zero Company was officially unveiled today during the Star Wars Celebration Japan event. This highly awaited title is a collaborative effort between Bit Reactor, Respawn Entertainment, and Lucasfilm Games.

Game Development Background

Initially announced alongside Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order in early 2022, Bit Reactor was founded by a team of veterans from the acclaimed XCOM series, led by Greg Foerstch. With this rich background in tactical game design, it’s no surprise that STAR WARS Zero Company draws significant inspiration from that genre. Greg Foerstch, CEO and Creative Director of Bit Reactor, elaborated:

Our vision for STAR WARS Zero Company is grounded in gameplay design pillars that weave in the immersive Star Wars galaxy with engaging turn-based tactics gameplay. It’s our aim to deliver a game with an original Star Wars story from the Clone Wars era that has meaningful outcomes from player choices, and deep turn-based tactical combat with an approachable and cinematic presentation.

Insight from Lucasfilm Games

Douglas Reilly, General Manager and VP at Lucasfilm Games, expressed enthusiasm about the project:

At Lucasfilm Games, we’re huge tactics fans and we have wanted to make a game like this for a long time. The best tactics games are all about meaningful choices, and we’re confident we have chosen the right squad in Bit Reactor to deliver a compelling and innovative title that is authentic to Star Wars.

Gameplay and Storyline Overview

In STAR WARS Zero Company, players will assume the role of Hawks, a former Republic officer tasked with directing an elite squad of resourceful operatives through a gripping narrative set in the waning days of the Clone Wars. This diverse ensemble, composed of hired guns from across the galaxy, must unite to tackle a looming threat that jeopardizes the entire galaxy.

The campaign will engage players in a series of tactical operations and investigations throughout various star systems. Between missions, players will establish a base of operations, gather intelligence, and cultivate a network of informants to gain strategic advantages against their foes. Fans of XCOM-like gameplay can anticipate the freedom to create a personalized squad of operatives, introducing unique, original characters into the Star Wars universe.

Customization and Team Dynamics

Notably, players can fully customize the main character’s appearance and combat class. Recruited operatives can also be tailored in terms of look, load-outs, and abilities, utilizing a range of iconic Star Wars character classes and species, including Clone Troopers, Astromechs, and Jedis. Additionally, as the team members interact and grow closer in the field, they unlock potent combat synergies that can significantly alter the outcome of battles. The developers promise that players can expect high-stakes encounters that will necessitate strategic thinking and planning.

Release Information

STAR WARS Zero Company is expected to launch in 2026, with availability on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X. Players interested in the game can already wishlist it on Steam.
