In a detailed analysis by noted industry expert Tim Culpan, it has been revealed that TSMC’s Arizona site is already catering to demands from tech giants like Apple and AMD. The inclusion of AMD, specifically with the production of its “Granite Ridge”Ryzen 9000 processors, underscores the growing capability and significance of this facility.

Reports indicate that TSMC has commenced production utilizing its advanced 4-nanometer (N4) process. Apple has made notable orders for components such as the S9 SoC, integral to the newly released Apple Watch Series 9. This strategic collaboration is a pivotal step for TSMC as it expands its footprint in the US semiconductor landscape, presenting encouraging prospects for future growth.

TSMC getting N3E orders from various clients

Currently, TSMC’s Arizona facility has reached a monthly production capacity of 10,000 wafers as part of Phase 1A (P1A), servicing an array of clients including NVIDIA, Apple, and AMD. However, challenges have arisen concerning Phase 1B (P1B), which is reportedly facing equipment shortages that have delayed its progress, now set for Q1 2025. While this has posed a hurdle, the timeline remains on track.

As the semiconductor industry evolves in the US, TSMC’s involvement will likely be pivotal, particularly in light of the prevailing political landscape influenced by the former Trump administration. In December, TSMC postponed the celebration of its Arizona facility to coincide with Trump’s inauguration, aiming to foster collaborative relationships with the new administration.
