The highly anticipated Commandos project from Kalypso Media and Claymore Game Studios is set to delight fans later this year. Prior to the official launch, players now have the opportunity to experience a glimpse of the game through a test mission. The playable demo of Commandos: Origins offers an introduction to the real-time stealth tactics series’ forthcoming prequel, which aims to breathe new life into a franchise that has lain dormant for over two decades.
This demo features a mission that brings together Jack O’Hara (the Green Beret) and James Blackwood (the Marine) as they undertake a unique task aimed at sabotaging a German radar installation:
“In this scenario, players will don the iconic roles of the Green Beret and the Marine, plunging into the depths of tactical warfare. Set against the historical backdrop of World War II in the Channel Islands, the Commandos will strategically employ their individual skills to disrupt a German radar system, highlighting the exhilarating gameplay that Commandos: Origins has to offer.”
It’s important to note that this demo mission is not derived from the main campaign of the game. According to Claymore, it is a “demo-exclusive test mission”designed to give fans a “sneak peek into the complex gameplay mechanics and stealth strategies that will be present in the full version.”The complete title will feature over ten missions, taking players from the Arctic tundra to the deserts of Africa, all while executing stealth operations behind enemy lines. Excitingly, the game will also introduce a new two-player co-op feature.
Initially revealed in 2023, Commandos: Origins promises to return to the series’ roots with its real-time tactical gameplay. Players will need to leverage a diverse team of characters, each equipped with unique abilities, to tackle challenging missions set during World War II. The familiar faces of the Green Beret, Sapper, Sniper, Driver, Marine, and Spy return, each armed with their full arsenal of skills, but now they are embarking on their inaugural missions as a newly formed unit.
The demo is currently available for download on Steam and Microsoft Store for PC users, as well as on Xbox Series X|S for console gamers.
Commandos: Origins is scheduled for release on PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4 before the end of 2024. Furthermore, it will be available on day one for Xbox and PC Game Pass subscribers.
