Google Unveils AI-Powered Makeup Feature for Meet Video Calls
In a significant enhancement to its video conferencing platform, Google has integrated AI-powered makeup features into Google Meet. This upgrade builds upon the Touch-up tool introduced in 2023, offering users refined options to modify their appearance during calls.
Overview of the Touch-Up Tool
The original Touch-up feature presented users with two modes: “Subtle”and “Smoothing.”The “Subtle”mode gently smooths the skin’s texture, lightens under-eye shadows, and brightens the eyes. In contrast, the “Smoothing”option provides a more pronounced enhancement, ideal for users who may need an extra boost in their appearance during virtual meetings. This tool was developed to enhance user confidence, especially for those who might be feeling fatigued or out of sorts.
Expanded Features with 12 New Looks
Google’s latest updates go beyond the existing features, introducing a range of twelve makeup styles that users can select. These looks cater to various preferences, from polished and professional appearances to more expressive and creative styles. This innovative system ensures that makeup effects remain consistent, even during actions such as sipping coffee or adjusting one’s hair, as demonstrated in Google’s promotional materials.
How to Apply AI Makeup in Google Meet
To utilize the AI makeup feature, users can easily navigate the platform’s interface. Before joining a call, simply click the “Backgrounds and effects”button located at the bottom of your self-view window. From there, navigate to the “Appearance”tab to explore the new makeup options available.
If you’re already in a meeting, hover over your video feed and click the “Backgrounds and effects”button directly in the center of the screen. Choose your preferred makeup style, and rest assured that your selection will be saved for future meetings, eliminating the need for repeated applications.
Removing Makeup Effects and Accessibility
If at any point you wish to remove the makeup effect, simply click the “Turn off visual effects”button in your self-view window and deselect your chosen look, or opt for “Remove all”to revert to your natural appearance.
Availability of AI Makeup and Other New Features
The AI-powered makeup feature is accessible to various Google Workspace subscribers, including:
- Business Standard, Plus
- Enterprise Starter, Standard, Plus
- Education Plus, Teaching & Learning add-on
- Enterprise Essentials
Additionally, Google One and Google Workspace Individual subscribers can also take advantage of this innovative tool.
In conjunction with this new feature, Google Meet has introduced a timer function in its web version. This tool aims to prevent meetings from exceeding their allotted time. To utilize the timer, simply click the “Meeting tools”icon in the bottom right corner and select “Timer.”From this menu, users can set a countdown for any desired duration, with options to pause, resume, or extend the timer in one-minute increments. The timer will be visible to all participants, ensuring everyone stays on track.
