Tron: Catalyst Revealed – Light Cycle Battles and More Coming in 2025
The iconic Disney sci-fi franchise, Tron, is set to expand not only with a new film debuting in 2025 but also with an exciting new video game. The upcoming title, Tron: Catalyst, is slated for release later this year across multiple platforms including PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch.
This announcement was unveiled by Big Fun Games, a fresh publishing label under Devolver Digital, which aims to showcase indie developers’ games based on established intellectual properties.
The development team behind this new installment is Bithell Games, known for their previous release, Tron: Identity, which launched in 2023. In a narrative twist, Tron: Catalyst serves as a direct sequel to Tron: Identity. While the latter was primarily a visual novel, the new game takes a different direction as an isometric action-adventure experience.
Players will assume the role of a character named Exo, who battles within the movie’s digital realm, known as the Grid, against a formidable adversary. Exo possesses unique powers and abilities that will aid in their quest. According to Big Fun Games:
Navigate through the streets on Light Cycles, engage in Identity Disc fights, and evade the relentless pursuit of Conn, a malicious program with its own motives, while you investigate the glitches endangering this digital world’s balance.
In line with the franchise’s lore, IGN confirms that Tron: Catalyst is considered canonical by Disney, occurring after the events of the film Tron: Legacy, yet it is set in an alternate version of the Grid that diverged from the primary Grid many years prior.
As previously indicated, this game will launch in the same year as the anticipated third film in the Tron series, Tron: Ares, featuring Jared Leto and the return of Jeff Bridges as Kevin Flynn. The theatrical release is scheduled for October 10, 2025.
