Treyarch announces changes for Black Ops 6 multiplayer based on beta feedback

The upcoming installment in the Call of Duty franchise, Black Ops 6, is set to release next month, and Treyarch is actively making improvements to its much-anticipated multiplayer component. In a recent update, the developer shared a variety of changes being implemented to the player versus player features prior to launch, informed by data gathered during the recent beta and player feedback.

In a blog post, the studio announced that although the beta primarily emphasized smaller maps, the complete multiplayer offering at launch will feature 12 core 6v6 maps, with the majority being classified as “medium-sized.”Moreover, based on two weeks of player data collected from the beta, Treyarch is overhauling player spawns to address existing issues.

Additionally, script errors, user interface (UI) concerns, and asset streaming problems identified during the beta have been addressed, with significant fixes also implemented to mitigate hitching during gameplay. Weapon balance adjustments include slight increases to headshot damage, reduced bullet penetration damage, enhancements to sniper aim down sights fluidity, and the ability to swap weapons while sprinting, along with a reduction in weapon motion when transitioning to a crouch.

The newly implemented omnimovement system is also receiving enhancements:

  • Continued improvements to animation fluidity and fidelity.
  • Identified areas for enhancements in our 3rd Person animation fidelity for actions like slide, dive, jump, and supine prone. Our goal is to ensure that first-person experiences align with third-person visuals to maintain immersion and predictability.
  • Adjustments to sliding mechanics for better predictability and fluidity.
  • During Beta Weekend 2, we increased the time required to enter a supine position while sliding; we’ve now adjusted this timing again following player feedback to find an optimal balance.
  • Reduced the minimum time to slide following a sprint to avoid unintentional crouching, commonly referred to as a “dead slide.”
  • Slight decrease in maximum slide duration.
  • Introduced updates to Intelligent Movement settings.
  • For further customization, users can access the Intelligent Movement settings in the Movement tab under Controller or Keyboard & Mouse settings, which include Sprint Assist, Mantle Assist, and Crouch Assist. This aims to streamline input requirements for basic movement and Omnimovement in Black Ops 6.
  • A previously identified issue in Beta regarding additional Mantle Assist settings has been resolved to behave as intended.

Treyarch will publish detailed patch notes highlighting all these alterations and additional updates as the launch date approaches.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is scheduled for release on October 25 for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. Subscribers of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass will also receive access to the game on its launch day.
