Travis Scott’s Melbourne Concert Incident: Fans Break Fence, Throw Trash, and Encounter Seizures

Travis Scott is currently in the midst of his fourth concert tour, known as the Circus Maximus Tour, which promotes his latest studio album, Utopia, launched in 2023. On Wednesday, October 23, the rapper took the stage in Melbourne, Australia, performing at the Marvel Stadium that evening.

A wave of disorder ensued outside the venue as eager fans of the “Mamacita”artist became restless while queuing, leading to broken fences and debris littering the streets. The extended waiting period frustrated many attendees, some of whom attempted to breach barriers and dismantle sections of the fencing to gain entry.

During the incident, five attendees reportedly sustained injuries and required hospitalization. METRO reported that one individual appeared to have a seizure, allegedly triggered by being tackled by a security personnel while trying to bypass a barricade.

Amid the turmoil, the YOSEMITE rapper’s performance commenced on schedule, with over 55,000 fans in attendance that night to witness Travis Scott’s show.

Travis Scott’s consecutive performances in Melbourne

Travis Scott held two consecutive sold-out performances in Melbourne on Tuesday and Wednesday. As the crowd began to escalate in chaos outside the venue ahead of his second concert, a confrontation between a fan and a security guard resulted in the fan reportedly suffering a seizure.

A witness, identified as Alex, shared his account with 9 News:

“He landed on the ground and seemed to have hit his head. The security personnel jumped on him immediately and attempted to lift him up. That’s when you could see him shaking, and they laid him on his side, which indicated he was having a seizure.”

The witness, who attended the concert with his girlfriend, expressed his concerns:

“Everyone was quite anxious, and it definitely affected both my girlfriend and me, making us feel uncomfortable.”

Prior to the concert’s start, five fans were transported on stretchers due to injuries sustained during the chaos. Richard Theodorakis, director of Pride Security Group, explained to 7 News how the crowd’s unruly conduct jeopardized safety, stating:

“Many of the incidents stemmed from the second lines formed at the front, and if you observe the footage, those lines are densely packed and wide. This density made it difficult for the police to manage, as it would allow someone to rush into the crowd without being apprehended.”

Theodorakis highlighted how being outnumbered by the crowd emboldened attendees to misbehave. After the concert wrapped up, several fans, particularly those in the mosh pit, reported being trampled.

This isn’t the first occurrence of crowd disorder at a Travis Scott concert

While the Melbourne show resulted in injuries for several attendees, Travis Scott’s prior concerts have experienced even more severe chaos. A notable incident occurred in Houston three years ago.

On November 5, 2021, Scott headlined the Astroworld Music Festival at NRG Park in Houston, Texas. Initially, the festival anticipated hosting over 100,000 attendees but later reduced capacity amid concerns about crowd control.

However, even with the reduced numbers, the crowd surged during Scott’s set, resulting in a deadly crush that left multiple injuries and fatalities. Eight individuals lost their lives at the festival, with two more succumbing to their injuries days later.

The Circus Maximus tour will conclude its fourth and final leg on Tuesday, October 30, with Travis Scott performing at Eden Park in Auckland, New Zealand.
