In an exciting partnership, Penguin Random House is set to unveil Ravenloft: Heir of Strahd, a novel that captures the essence of the iconic Curse of Strahd adventure. This marks a significant return to the Ravenloft series, last explored in novels nearly two decades ago.

Ravenloft: Heir of Strahd – A New Chapter in D&D Literature

Dungeons and Dragons enthusiasts have experienced a plethora of official adventures from Wizards of the Coast over the past decade. However, few have reached the iconic status of Curse of Strahd, a dark and chilling adventure set in the haunting Domain of Dread known as Barovia. This campaign setting, a staple since the early days of D&D in 1983, features the infamous vampire lord Strahd von Zarovich.

The forthcoming novel follows a group of five adventurers who find themselves mysteriously transported to Barovia. Among them are Fielle, a Human Artificer; Kah, a Kenku Cleric; Rotrog, an Orc Wizard; Alishai, a Tiefling Paladin; and Chivarion, a Drow Barbarian. Their arrival takes a dramatic turn when Strahd himself invites them to Castle Ravenloft, where survival hinges on cooperation amidst the gothic horrors that await.

Published by Penguin Random House, the literary giant previously released various D&D titles, including Heroes’ Feast: Flavors of the Multiverse and Spelljammer: Memory’s Wake. The new project builds upon the established lore while offering fresh narratives that appeal to both new readers and long-time fans alike.

Dungeons and Dragons has a rich history of literature set in Ravenloft, starting with Christie Golden’s Vampire of the Mists released in 1991. The last Ravenloft novel, Black Crusade by Ari Marmell, was published in 2008, while Count Strahd von Zarovich last featured in the 1998 book I, Strahd: The War Against Azalin. Thus, Heir of Strahd becomes a momentous addition to the series, marking its first new entry in over 17 years.
