Faced with an old typewriter that could either join a vintage collection or be discarded, the user chose an inventive route.

Instead of opting for a straightforward repair, this inventive user successfully fit modern PC hardware into the typewriter’s limited space. This task required not only meticulous planning but also compact components from his existing stash. Given that the typewriter was missing several parts, the user decided to repurpose it into a mini PC, discovering that it could actually house a micro-ATX motherboard.

The build features an MSI H110M PRO-D motherboard with an LGA 1151 socket, complemented by a Core i5 6600 Skylake processor. It also includes 4 GB of DDR4 RAM and a 240GB SATA SSD, while a 200W SFX power supply unit (PSU) provides electricity. Given that the total power consumption is estimated to stay below 150W, the selected PSU capacity is entirely adequate. Despite the PCI-E x16 slot being absent on the motherboard, the user ingeniously connected an NVIDIA GT 635 GPU using a riser cable and an adapter, ensuring operability despite potential performance limitations.

To complete the transformation, an Arduino Leonardo microcontroller board was integrated, allowing the typewriter mechanism to function as a modern USB keyboard. Although this conversion may not cater to high-end gaming, it provides sufficient capabilities for basic tasks such as internet browsing, Microsoft Office applications, and drawing programs.
