WARNING! Spoilers ahead for Void Rivals #16
In a significant turn for the Energon Universe, Zerta-Trion makes her highly anticipated debut in the latest installment of Void Rivals. This intriguing new character, who has been the subject of various teasers, opens a new chapter in Skybound’s interconnected storytelling.
Under the collaborative efforts of creators Robert Kirkman, Lorenzo De Felici, Patricio Delpeche, and Rus Wooton, Void Rivals #16 continues the narrative of Solila, one of the two protagonists known as the “Void Rivals.” Solila’s journey has taken her through a series of challenging developments since her separation from Darak four issues back.

Solila’s quest involves descending to the depths of the Sacred Ring in search of Zerta-Trion, a figure revered as a deity by her people. After her encounter with the supercomputer, Vector-Theta, in the previous issue, Solila finally discovers Zerta-Trion’s imposing presence at the culmination of Void Rivals #16, realizing she had been treading along Zerta-Trion’s massive form all along.
Zerta-Trion Makes Her Energon Universe Debut
Could Zerta-Trion Be the New Big Bad of Transformers?

Described by the Autobot Springer as an ancient Cybertronian, Zerta-Trion was pivotal in liberating Transformers’ home, Cybertron, from the Quintessons before diverging from her kin to forge something new. With both the Agorrians and Zertonians revealed to share origins steeped in Cybertronian lore, it raises the compelling possibility that Zerta-Trion could be the architect behind these races and the Sacred Ring itself. Her awakening signals a transformative era for the Energon Universe, setting the stage for unparalleled narrative depth.
The name Zerta-Trion bears resemblance to Alpha-Trion, an iconic Cybertronian who played a crucial role in victors over the Quintessons and liberating their planet. Many iterations of the Transformers saga link Alpha-Trion with Primus, the god figure of Cybertron, whose essence shaped their home world. This suggests a fascinating counterbalance in Zerta-Trion, potentially aligning with Unicron — Primus’s antithesis and a harbinger of chaos, notably introduced in the 1986 classic, Transformers: The Movie. If Zerta-Trion symbolizes a shift in power, the entrance of Unicron could redefine the Energon Universe significantly.

Anticipating Major Storylines within the Energon Universe

Throughout the series, Void Rivals has intricately suggested connections between Unicron and the Sacred Ring. The concept of “Unity”has emerged, highlighting a potential reconciliation engineered by leaders of the Agorrians and Zertonians amid their long-standing conflict. A pivotal moment occurs when Solila and Darak touch foreheads at their farewell, a scene steeped in symbolism that alludes to deeper ties within the Energon Universe.
This intimate act transitions into a visual of a colossal darkness where a massive figure awakens, illuminating with green eyes. Fans have speculated intensely that this entity is none other than Unicron, a theory supported by continual hints throughout the narrative. With Void Rivals on the verge of entering its third year, the forthcoming chapters promise a vast and exhilarating storyline. As Zerta-Trion steps into the limelight, Transformers enthusiasts should remain vigilant to witness how her integration catalyzes events in the Energon Universe.
