Welcome to Chapter 3 of Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter, more aptly known as the hot spring episode. This chapter marks a significant turning point as we venture into the City of Zeiss, where the narrative’s tension escalates, unveiling the intricate conflict surrounding the region of Liberl.
While the chapter features only two large open fields, they are expansive, so keep an eye out, as numerous chests may remain hidden until you approach them. As always, I will provide screenshots for your reference to aid your exploration.
This walkthrough aims to assist you in securing any collectible items you may miss along the way, including books, recipes, and bonus BP associated with various quests.
As dedicated bracers, it’s your responsibility to pick up and complete all subquests listed on the guild board. I have faith in your abilities!

Royal Academy Type
Book – Carnelia Vol.6
Kick off Chapter 3 by heading to the Air-Letten Checkpoint. Fast travel to Jenis Royal Academy and ascend to the second floor of the Clubhouse, where you can collect Carnelia Vol.6 from Violet in the Material Archives room.
Ruan
Book – Liberl News Issue 6
In Ruan, make your way to the O’neil Shop located next to the bridge in the North District to purchase Liberl News Issue 6. Fast travel is an option to expedite your journey.
Next, proceed to Air-Letten and traverse through the Kaldia Mines to arrive at the Central Factory in Zeiss.
Zeiss
Book – Hertz’s Adventure Vol.1
Upon reaching the Central Factory, you will have the opportunity to explore its surroundings. Ascend to the second floor in the Archives room, and check a bookshelf to uncover the first volume of Hertz’s Adventure.
Recipes – Black Pepper Soup / Spiral Pasta / Seasonal Tart
Once you arrive in the City of Zeiss, take the escalator down and step into Forgel Bar. The bartender offers three enticing new dishes for you to learn.
Use Estelle’s skills to whip up a delightful Seasonal Tart, which will unlock the recipe for Fluffy Pancakes.
Books – Crystal Optical Theory
After formally introducing yourself at the Guild branch in Zeiss, two new subquests will become available. The subquest titled Looking for Librarian will lead you to discover two new books.
To start, speak with the requester in the Central Factory, then search for the books located on the fourth and fifth floors. Completing this quest will automatically trigger another subquest named Overtime, where you need to locate yet another book.
This quest can be completed now, but I suggest waiting until the storyline naturally brings you to the same area required for the subquest.
While working on the aforementioned subquest, one of the books you’ll find is Tomorrow’s Cooking.
Continue with the main quest until you activate the Elmo Pump Repair main quest.
Recipe – Bitter Tomato Sandwich
When the Elmo Pump Repair quest kicks off, you’ll see several new subquests added to the guild board. Successfully completing the Fresher Flavors subquest will reward you with a new recipe.
To complete this, head to the fourth floor of the Central Factory, locate the laboratory, and check the mini-garden in the northeast corner for a Bitter Tomato.
Once you acquire this ingredient, return to Forgel Bar and present it to Ben. This will conclude the subquest and teach you how to make a Bitter Tomato Sandwich.
Bonus BP – Product Piloting
This subquest requires you to equip a new Strega model alongside Estelle while traveling to three different locations. To maximize your bonus BP earnings, visit five key locations: Elmo Village, Wolf Fort, Sanktheim Gate, Leiston Fortress, and Air-Letten.
The remake of Trails in the Sky has streamlined this quest significantly; if you have already visited those areas, you can simply equip the sneakers and fast travel to them. The game will inform you if the journey was worth it. After visiting all five locations, return to the quest provider to receive a reward of two bonus BP.
Sanktheim Street
Recipe – Meat Lover’s Hot Pot
Your main storyline will eventually lead you to Sanktheim Gate, but if you are currently on the subquest for Product Piloting, you may end up there a bit earlier than expected.
Use this opportunity to chat with the cook at Sanktheim Gate and purchase the Meat Lover’s Hot Pot to learn the corresponding recipe.
Wolf Fort
Bonus BP – Cupid on Cue
Upon arrival at Wolf Fort, a hidden subquest presents itself, which does not originate from the Guild board.
Strike up a conversation with Private Brahm to initiate his quest, which entails simply delivering a letter. However, if you include a gift that Fey cherishes, you’ll gain additional BP.
The ideal gift is the Wool Knit Hat, which can be found in the Bell Station store in Zeiss; fast travel can be undertaken for convenience. Brahm provides you with 2, 000 mira, which serves as a hint.
Once you complete the letter delivery along with the Wool Hat, you’ll gain a rewarding total of four bonus BP for your matchmaker efforts.
Crimson Tower
Recipe – Infernal Fried Eggs
Located near Wolf Fort is the Crimson Tower, which, like its counterparts, is filled with chests yielding valuable items. On the fifth floor, you can collect a meal known as Infernal Fried Eggs.
Prepare this dish with Joshua to learn how to make a customized meal called Demi-glace Omelette Rice.
Elmo Village
Recipe – Soft-Boiled Hot Spring Egg
Book – The Erbe Woodpecker
After concluding the Looking for Librarian subquest, you’ll automatically begin another quest titled Overtime. Your objective is to locate The Erbe Woodpecker book, which can be found in the Maple Leaf Inn located in Elmo Village.
Head to the back area with the hot springs, proceed down the staircase, and inspect the fountain to discover the book. Once you’ve completed this task, a subquest named Over-Overtime will trigger, tasking you with finding yet another book, which we will pursue after the Elmo Pump repair.
Recipes – Fruit Milk / Special Eggnog / Monster Fish Sashimi / Wild Veggie Hot Pot
Upon finishing the repair task, the shop within the Maple Inn will re-open. The clerk will be offering four new delightful meals that are awaiting your culinary exploration.
Tratt Plain Road
Book – Hertz’s Adventure Vol.2
You can tackle the Over-Overtime subquest when it becomes available, but I’ve opted to wait until the hot spring storyline wraps up.
As you return to Zeiss, be sure to stop by the open area situated between the Crimson Tower and Wolf Fort to discover Hertz’s Adventure Vol.2. The quest associated with this book cannot be fully completed immediately due to storyline constraints, but don’t worry; we will revisit it.
Central Factory

As the primary storyline progresses, you’ll arrive at the misty Central Factory. Here, several blue exclamation marks will appear on your minimap. Interacting with each will yield one bonus BP.
Be mindful to avoid the third floor while disarming the smoke grenades. In total, you will need to eliminate grenades from five different locations:
- On the left side of the first floor.
- In the basement, concealed behind a stack of boxes.
- Near the elevator on the second floor.
- By the blackboard on the fourth floor.
- Located in the Design Room corner on the third floor.
I recommend saving the third floor for last to prevent unintentionally advancing the story by entering Russell’s room too early. After you’ve dealt with all five smoke canisters, head over to the main quest marker.
Crimson Tower
Additionally, you can earn more Bonus BP due to the Factory Incident.

Following the events at the factory, your next destination will lead you to Crimson Tower. Upon encountering some adversaries, you will face a choice among three options. Select “Those guys in black are behind this?” to receive three bonus BP. However, before advancing to the next area, it’s wise to visit Wolf Fort.
Wolf Fort
Book – Carnelia Vol.7
Before making your ascent up the tower, consult Bruno at Wolf Fort to obtain Carnelia Vol.7. If he is unavailable, it indicates that you haven’t yet finished the Cargo Car subquest.
Remember, it’s always prudent to complete subquests before delving into the main storyline!
Zeiss
Book – Liberl News Issue 7
After the various developments surrounding the Zemuria Moss, a new day unfolds. Your next step is a visit to the Bracer Guild. But first, head to Bell Station to acquire Liberl News Issue 7.

Next, you will journey to Leiston Fortress. During this phase, options will arise on two occasions. On the first, the choice does not significantly matter.
When you return to the guild, the ideal selection is “The Royal Guard is being framed?” Making this choice will grant you three bonus BP for successfully progressing the main storyline.
Book – 31 Cypress Tree
As previously mentioned, you could have commenced the Over-Overtime quest and initiated the subsequent Over-Over-Overtime quest ahead of the hot spring arc. This quest will not require any combat, so feel free to tackle it at your convenience.
I personally chose to wait until we had four party members before diving in. Once you commence Over-Over-Overtime, head to Sanktheim Gate to search for the 31 Cypress Tree book, located near the roof.
In the original Trails in the Sky, these chain quests were often quite challenging to solve independently. The markers included here both assist and detract from the experience.
Leiston Fortress

After extracting you-know-who from captivity, your immediate task is to escape Leiston Fortress. Be observant of the enemies’ vision radius displayed on your minimap. Your goal is to reach the quest marker without being detected.
This is a straightforward task; simply evade their line of sight and dash toward your objective. If accomplished correctly, you will earn an extra three BP.
Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter – Chapter 3 Chest Locations
As you traverse through Zeiss’s open fields, remain vigilant, as some chests may not appear on your map unless you are in close proximity to them.
Kaldia Tunnel
This narrow passage connects Ruan to Zeiss, and due to its size, I apologize if the screenshot appears slightly off.
Kaldia Limestone Cave
This limestone cave is tucked within Kaldia Tunnel. There’s no need to explore it initially, as the main story will eventually guide you through it.
Tratt Plains Road
This expansive field lies south of Zeiss and provides access to Wolf Fort, Crimson Tower, and Elmo Village. Some chests will only be visible on your map when you’re sufficiently close to them.
Ritter Roadway
This roadway provides a connection between Zeiss and the Sanktheim Gate, leading onwards to Grancel.
Soldat Army Road
This path leads toward Leiston Fortress, where you’ll discover two solitary chests awaiting your discovery.
Crimson Tower
This vibrant tower, like many others, is brimming with treasure chests just waiting to be uncovered.
