Stoic, the studio behind the acclaimed Banner Saga series, has recently launched its latest title, Towerborne, in Steam Early Access last month. Following a couple of minor hotfixes, today marks the arrival of the game’s first significant update, known as Duskveil. This update introduces substantial class revisions, adjustments to progression, and festive Halloween-themed customizations.
In response to player feedback, the developers recognized that the challenge gap between Danger Levels 3 and 4 was excessively steep. To remedy this, they’ve refined the difficulty curve by enhancing the upgrade pathways for Uncommon and Rare items. Additionally, the pace of leveling has been moderated, allowing players to accumulate gear without becoming overly powerful too quickly.
The new update also features replayable discovery missions across regions such as Grasslands, Fungi Forest, Mountains, and Ruins, providing players with fresh content to explore while the Stoic team works on new gameplay additions. Furthermore, the update expands aspect storage from 40 to 50 slots, enhancing inventory management.
While fixes have been implemented for all character classes in Towerborne, the Sentinel class has undergone a comprehensive transformation with the Duskveil update:
- Block: Players can now cancel attacks into blocks, mirroring the existing mechanic for canceling into Evade.
- Shield Strike: A new double-tap of Block initiates a Shield Strike, which can break through enemy blocks, stagger weaker foes, and offers a brief window to Parry incoming assaults. This move introduces an alternative approach to executing the Shield Bash combo—simply press Heavy Attack following a Shield Strike to see the results!
- Parry: The Parry window has been expanded to account for online latency, alongside a shortened cooldown for Parry, making it easier to enjoy those exhilarating “Let’s go Justin!” moments during multi-hit attacks.
- Valor: Rewards from blocking and parrying have been boosted, while the number of available hits in Valor mode has also increased.

After the current phase in Steam Early Access, Towerborne is expected to launch on Xbox Game Preview for Xbox and Windows in early 2025, when subscribers to Game Pass can also join the action.
