Will the BBC eventually exhaust its catalogue of Agatha Christie adaptations? Unlikely, considering the prolific author crafted more than 75 detective novels during her illustrious career. With numerous interpretations still awaiting cinematic exploration, the upcoming three-part miniseries Towards Zero, produced by BBC and BritBox, promises to be a thrilling addition.
Following the remarkable success of last year’s Murder Is Easy, which attracted over 7 million viewers per episode, Towards Zero has substantial shoes to fill. However, with a stellar cast and an intriguing narrative, it is well-positioned to captivate both existing fans and new audiences alike.
Overview of Towards Zero

Adapted from Christie’s acclaimed novel, Towards Zero transports viewers to the summer of 1936 in Gull’s Point, England. The story revolves around former lovers Nevile and Audrey Strange, who reunite in their nostalgic childhood neighborhood. This picturesque setting, which also features Nevile’s aunt’s sprawling coastal estate, starkly contrasts the dark themes of murder, greed, and chaos that follow them.
The official synopsis from the BBC unveils the tension simmering between the characters:
“With unfinished business between the former childhood sweethearts [Nevile and Audrey], plus the presence of Nevile’s new wife Kay, tensions are running high. Add to this a long-suffering lady’s companion, a mysterious gentleman’s valet, an exiled cousin with a grudge, a venerable family lawyer, an inquisitive orphan and a French conman, and soon there will be murder. A troubled detective must rediscover his purpose to untangle a toxic web of jealousy, deceit, and dysfunction. Can he solve the crime before another victim meets their death?”
An Impressive Cast Awaits

The draw of Towards Zero extends beyond its gripping plot; its cast is exceptional. Star power is undeniable with Anjelica Huston portraying the family matriarch, Lady Tressilian. She will be joined by Matthew Rhys in the role of Inspector Leach and Oliver Jackson-Cohen as the notable tennis player Nevile Strange.
Additional cast members include Ella Lily Hyland as Audrey, Mimi Keene as Kay, Clarke Peters as Mr. Treves, Anjana Vasan as Mary Aldin, and Jack Farthing as Thomas Royde, among others, promising a rich tapestry of performances.
When Will Towards Zero Premiere?
Towards Zero will unfold over three hour-long episodes, set to air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK on March 2, 2025. For audiences in the U. S.and Canada, the series will debut on BritBox this spring, with the exact release date still pending.
The miniseries was shot on location in and around Bristol and along the stunning Devon coast, hinting at mesmerizing visuals and engaging summer festivities. The anticipation builds further with the release of a teaser trailer:
