Top 10 Games Similar to Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth

Top 10 Games Similar to Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth

Having dedicated around two hundred hours to Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, I can confidently say it was a top contender for Game of the Year. Despite competing with several remarkable titles throughout the year, my affection for this entry remains unshaken. It’s worth noting that RGG Studios has a history of creating games that leave a lasting impact.

If you share my enthusiasm for this game—whether it’s the engaging real-time, turn-based combat, the spectacular Hawaiian open-world setting, or the incredible character roster—you’re likely feeling the absence left by Ichiban Kasuga and Kiryu Kazuma as the story wraps up. To help fill that void, I’ve compiled a list of games that, while they may not entirely replicate the charm of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, do share some captivating elements. I’m convinced you’ll find joy in exploring these titles.

10. Way of the Samurai 4

Crazy Noisy Samurai Guy

Way of the Samurai 4 combat gameplay

If you’re discovering Way of the Samurai 4 for the first time, consider yourself fortunate. This game boasts a delightful blend of humor reminiscent of Ichiban’s adventures in the Like a Dragon series. Although its graphics may appear dated and the gameplay a bit clunky, the comedic writing and absurdity will keep you entertained as if you’re in a comedic skit set in Feudal Japan.

From establishing your own quirky dojo to comically engaging foes—either through bare-knuckle brawls or skillful swordplay—the hilarious scenarios seem limitless. Given its budget-friendly price during sales, I highly recommend this game for its impressive replay value, driven by its outrageous gameplay mechanics.

9. Sea of Stars

Chrono Trigger 2.0

Sea of Stars stands as an homage to classic turn-based RPGs, featuring a compelling narrative with an impressive balance of encounters and engaging side quests. What also sets this title apart is its emphasis on interactive combat.

This atmospheric game offers real-time interactions during battles, enhancing engagement throughout your journey. Players can enhance damage through timely inputs and initiate multi-character combo attacks. The inclusion of mechanics similar to a “Perfect Guard” brings to mind the combat depth found in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. It’s a rare feat for a game to fuse turn-based and real-time elements seamlessly, but Sea of Stars does so skillfully.

8. Tales of Arise

Tales of Arise Alphen and Shionne

While not as colossal as Final Fantasy, Tales of Arise has gained considerable popularity, eclipsing its predecessors. A significant allure lies in the action-oriented combat, where each character showcases unique movesets enriched with personalized Artes and challenges.

The learning curve may be steep, but mastering the combat mechanics rewards players, especially during the intense endgame encounters. A personal favorite element in JRPGs is the party banter, and both Tales of Arise and its predecessors excel in this area, providing engaging interactions as you journey through the expansive world.

Despite facing some pacing challenges, the gradual romance between Alphen and Shionne adds depth, making your adventure all the more worthwhile.

7. Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 Remix

May Your Heart Be Your Guiding Key

Though the narrative of Kingdom Hearts can be convoluted, the series holds a special place in the hearts of fans, myself included. If you’re hesitant about diving into the entire series, I recommend the 1.5 + 2.5 Remix, which collects several pivotal entries including a card-based game and the prequel Birth By Sleep.

If you reveled in the whimsical moments present in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, this title will undoubtedly satisfy your cravings. Additionally, it offers one of the finest PS2 experiences along with my personal favorite, Kingdom Hearts 2.

6. Octopath Traveler 2

A Journey with Everlasting Memories

Numerous factors contribute to the appreciation of Octopath Traveler 2, from its charming pixel art style to its diverse roster of characters. You’ll encounter eight distinct protagonists, each with individual quests, ranging from seeking revenge to uncovering truth in a vast world.

This game is reminiscent of the eccentric adult characters found in Like a Dragon, showcasing strong writing and unique personalities that enhance the narrative experience. The eight classes each character embodies also provide intriguing versatility, ensuring a fun and fresh experience with every playthrough.

5. Sleeping Dogs

Don’t let preconceived notions steer you off—Sleeping Dogs isn’t merely a GTA clone set in China; it serves as a fantastic sequel to Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. If you appreciate the Yakuza series’ clever mix of dark narratives and lighthearted humor, this game is certainly worthy of your time.

With Wei Shen caught between the roles of an undercover cop and gang member in Hong Kong’s criminal world, the storytelling maintains a remarkable balance. While not a JRPG, the pacing and plentiful side activities—from street races to engaging in police busts—ensures a captivating experience that avoids monotony.

This cult favorite deserves your attention if you haven’t already discovered its charm, particularly given its dedicated fanbase and infinite sequel possibilities that unfortunately remain unrealized.

4. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy

Never Gonna Give You Up

Produced by Eidos-Montréal, the same developers behind the acclaimed Deus Ex franchises, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is an essential title for those who enjoyed Infinite Wealth. The gameplay unfolds in a linear format with distinct encounters and boss battles.

The authentic camaraderie among the Guardians emerges through witty dialogue filled with sarcasm and charm, creating a rich narrative experience. It’s unfortunate this title didn’t garner the recognition it rightfully deserves; it should undoubtedly rank among the finest games based on comic lore.

While the action combat may be basic, the sharply written dialogue and engaging storyline will keep players entertained throughout their journey.

3. Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake

A Modern Classic for Fans & Newcomers

Considering the myriad influences drawn from Like a Dragon, exploring the Dragon Quest series—especially the latest HD-2D remake of the third installment—is a worthwhile venture. Much like Final Fantasy, the entries in this series can stand alone, allowing newcomers to dive in regardless of their prior knowledge.

The vocation system presents exciting prospects, although the storyline can feel somewhat formulaic and lacks intensive emotional depth. The overarching world-building and lore provide a solid basis for the adventure, making it a foundational experience that contributes significantly to the evolution of the JRPG genre.

2. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

FF7 Rebirth Aerith, Cloud, and Tifa

Amid a crowded JRPG landscape in 2024, I delved into both Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth back-to-back, an exhausting yet memorable endeavor. FF7 Rebirth emphasizes character bonding, showcasing meaningful moments among party members, especially during side quests and delightful engagements at the Gold Saucer.

No character is sidelined—except perhaps Vincent, but we can anticipate a deeper exploration of his character in the trilogy’s concluding installment. The intricate interactions between characters establish profound relationships that resonate nicely with the emotional undertones evident in Like a Dragon.

1. Persona 5 Royal

Throw Away Your Mask

Back in 2017, Persona 5 enchanted me, and its expanded re-release, Royal, drew me in with promises of substantial improvements. The redesigned dungeon layouts, new hangout locations, and the captivating Royal semester arc introduced a memorable antagonist, showcasing Atlus’s unparalleled character development.

Years later, Royal resonates with me as strongly as Like a Dragon, with both games presenting characters that helped me navigate challenging times in my life. While it may falter with some slower pacing in its mid-section, the emotional impact of the final acts is unforgettable.

The cherry on top is Shoji Meguro’s outstanding music that accompanies players as they bid farewell to Joker and the Phantom Thieves, creating an indelible musical memory.
