Tony Pollard contract: How much will the former Cowboys RB earn in Tennessee?
Tony Pollard, who previously played as a running back for the Dallas Cowboys, officially joined the Tennessee Titans this month on a three-year contract. This decision solidified the departure of Derrick Henry from Tennessee.
Adam Schefter reports that Pollard has signed a three-year, $24 million deal with the Titans. According to Spotrac, the contract includes $10.5 million in guaranteed funds and an average annual salary of $7.25 million.
Despite numerous reports, Pollard ultimately did not come to an agreement with the Cowboys on a long-term contract deal. Instead, he played the entire 2023-24 season under the $10.1 million franchise tag clause.
The ex-fourth-round pick in the NFL draft achieved back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons with the Cowboys in 2022 and 2023. In the previous season, he was selected for the Pro Bowl for his 1,007-yard performance.
The 26-year-old running back had four 100-yard games during the 2022 season, but only recorded one in the previous season. Despite suffering an ankle injury towards the end of the 2022 season, he recovered in time for training camp and was able to participate in every game for Dallas during the 2022 season.
Tony Pollard’s Football Journey
Tony Pollard, who played collegiate football at Memphis, was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL draft with the 128th overall pick.
Over the course of his first four seasons in the NFL, Pollard served as Ezekiel Elliott’s backup. However, due to his consistent production of impressive plays, he gradually earned more opportunities. By his fifth season in 2023, he had officially taken on the role of full-time starter.
In 2023, Pollard accumulated 1,316 yards through receiving and rushing in 17 games, along with six touchdowns. In the previous season, he had 1,378 yards and 12 touchdowns in 16 games, which led to his selection for the 2022 Pro Bowl.
In both the 2022 and 2023 seasons, Tony Pollard proved to be a dependable pass-catcher out of the backfield. He accumulated 39 receptions for 371 yards and three touchdowns in 2022, and increased his production in 2023 with 55 receptions for 311 yards.
Despite Pollard’s absence from Dallas, the team is currently lacking an optimal starting running back. While the draft is a probable option, the Cowboys also have the opportunity to explore the free agency market in order to fill Pollard’s role.
