After numerous trials and explorations, you’ve finally reached the climactic confrontation with Nightreign’s ultimate antagonist – the Night Aspect. If you’re anything like me, your first encounter was spent admiring the stunning skybox above rather than focusing solely on the boss. The visual splendor truly captures the essence of a grand finale, yet as you might imagine, this battle presents its own formidable challenges.
The Night Aspect expertly harnesses the offensive tactics of all preceding Nightlords, making it a fierce adversary. With thorough preparation—and a bit of fortunate RNG—you can overcome the final Nightlord relatively swiftly. Below, I will outline strategies for defeating the Night Aspect in Elden Ring: Nightreign.
Strategies for Defeating the Night Aspect in Elden Ring: Nightreign
To increase your chances of success against the Night Aspect during your Nightreign Expeditions, it’s imperative to adopt a strategy while navigating Limveld. Focus on gearing up specifically to counter the Night Aspect’s weaknesses by acquiring suitable gear and consumables along your journey.
- Holy Damage Vulnerability: The Night Aspect is especially susceptible to Holy damage, so keep any Holy armaments, Incantations, Pots, or Grease handy.
- Defense Essentials: As the Night Aspect inflicts various types of damage, prioritize gathering items with Damage Negation effects like Physical and Affinity Damage Negation.
- Avoid Ineffective Status Effects: Frostbite, Bleed, and Poison will not yield any benefits against the Night Aspect.
- Utilization of Consumables: This aspect cannot be overstated—utilizing consumables can significantly impact your performance. Items like Boiled Prawns can mitigate Physical Damage, while Exalted Flesh can enhance your attack capability.
- Tower Shields for Tanking: While a shield isn’t mandatory, using one—especially a Tower Shield—can absorb a tremendous amount of damage if you’re playing as a melee Nightfarer.
- Flask Acquisition: Aim to discover and collect all Churches and Flasks—typically three to four—across Limveld. Ample healing resources are a must for this challenging battle.
In terms of character composition, any mix of Nightfarers will suffice; however, I strongly recommend enlisting a Raider or Wylder to inflict consistent stance damage upon the boss.
Navigating the First Phase: The Shape of Night
Your encounter kicks off with the first phase against The Shape of Night. This three-armed Nightlord skillfully wields two swords, including the impressive Moonlight Greatsword. While it may appear intimidating, this phase is relatively manageable due to the slower pace of the boss.
Watch for Sword Attacks: Be vigilant of sly sword slashes and sweeping movements. Although the fight may seem straightforward, conserve your HP and Flasks for the more challenging second phase. Team coordination will be crucial to minimizing damage in this initial bout.
The Shape of Night possesses the ability to change targets rapidly, performing slashes and dashes aimed at players positioned behind him. Maintain awareness of his attacks while attempting to strike from the rear, and be ready to roll back out of harm’s way.
If healing is necessary, utilize a Warming Stone, if available, while your team draws aggro. While you may have opportunities to heal later, it’s wise to use these early in the encounter and reserve your Flasks for the inevitable chaos ahead.
Once the first phase concludes, promptly activate any consumable buffs at your disposal, and capitalize on any openings to attack or consume Flasks quickly.
Confronting Heolster, the Nightlord: Phase Two
The second phase ushers in a new health bar, and while the stunning sky may distract, your focus must remain on Heolster, the Nightlord. He continues wielding two swords, though his Moonlight Greatsword is now imbued with magical energy, and a dagger is added to his arsenal. Expect a significant increase in speed and severity of attacks.
Melee players should aim to deal stance damage whenever possible (the Ironeye’s Mark Skill is invaluable here) to mitigate Heolster’s most potent assaults. Be on guard for the following attacks:
- Magic Projectiles: Heolster will begin to spin, trailing his Greatsword, summoning hazardous magic projectiles to evade.
- Magic Downpour: A purple mist envelops the arena—dodge the projectiles that crash down while he simultaneously preys on you.
- Sword Slash and Dash: Expect Heolster to strafe quickly towards other teammates, executing a series of deadly slashes that necessitate keen reflexes to avoid.
- Triple Sword Slash: He will follow targets with a swift three-part sword combo, finishing with a powerful downward strike you should evade.
- Empowered Lunge: If Heolster imbues his sword with magic, prepare to dodge backward as he lunges toward you, inflicting severe damage.
Once Heolster reaches 50-60% health, prepare for a dramatic display as he ascends and shatters the sky, executing a large AoE attack across the terrain. There are safe spots between beams where you can take cover, or you can attempt to dodge if you feel confident.
The transition to the third phase is visually dazzling. If the spectacle distracts you, becoming overwhelmed is entirely understandable.
During the third phase, Heolster continues to use attacks from the second phase, while adding new ones:
- Explosive Fissures: Watch for the rumbling rocks indicating explosive fissures ready to erupt. Heolster will conjure more while attacking, so stay nimble and alert.
- Five Sword Slash: The triple sword combo evolves into a five-hit move that culminates in a devastating strike you should aim to dodge.
- Dive Attack: Heolster will take to the sky, charging his sword with an affinity before plunging it into the ground, producing a massive AoE assault that extends across much of the arena.
- Magic Arc: Expect Heolster to unleash a magical arc from his Moonlight Greatsword with rapid iterations, followed by thrusting toward you. Sidestep or dodge through this attack.
In summary, though the battle against the Night Aspect is no small feat, becoming familiar with the boss’s mechanics and preparing accordingly can ease the difficulty. Focus on utilizing Holy damage, stacking Damage Negation passives, and dexterously navigating the impressive yet perilous transitions between phases.
