Tips for Acquiring More Artifacts in Civilization 7 (Overcoming Artifact Scarcity)

While it’s possible to acquire additional Artifacts through world events and utilizing the Overbuilding mechanic in Civilization VII, the primary source of these crucial items for achieving a Culture Victory will rely heavily on the player’s Explorers. However, it’s important to note that this task may be more challenging than it initially appears.

Competing civilizations will also be on the hunt for Artifacts, which adds to the difficulty of collecting the necessary fifteen to unlock the World’s Fair. Fortunately, with a strategic approach and an adequate number of Explorers, players can simplify the process of gathering enough Artifacts to claim Cultural Victory in Civilization VII.

Strategies for Acquiring More Artifacts in Civ 7

Achieving a Culture Victory is less about rushing and more about strategizing effectively. Players may find that by approximately 35% Age Progress, many Artifacts might already have been claimed. Charging in without a planned approach could leave players significantly short of the essential 15 Artifacts needed for the World’s Fair.

The first step towards acquiring the 15 Artifacts is to research the Natural History Civic. After that, players must construct a Museum followed by training a number of Explorers, ideally around six. Once equipped with Explorers, spreading them strategically across the continent with the Museum will enhance the odds of locating Artifacts.

Utilizing the minimap to view continent borders can be extremely helpful; players can activate the “Continents”feature to easily see the boundaries, which will assist in identifying potential Artifact dig sites later in the game.

When ready, one Explorer should be dispatched to the Museum (or a University if previously built), selecting the Research Artifacts command. Afterward, players should send all Explorers to various dig sites as quickly as possible, where they will commence excavation. These dig sites can be identified on the map by a shovel icon once players have completed the necessary research.

Once all Artifacts on the first continent have been excavated, players should relocate their Explorers to a second continent. If a settlement exists there, they can establish another Museum for further Artifact study. In the absence of a local Museum, players can look for a Museum or University in another civilization’s territory, as these are identifiable by their question mark icons.

After successfully gathering several Artifacts, the next vital step involves studying the Hegemony Civic. This will enable Explorers to extract Artifacts buried since the Antiquity Age. Therefore, it’s critical to keep Explorers stationed in their current location while players research the necessary Civics to unlock Hegemony from the Modern Age Civic Tree (Social Question, Political Theory, and Nationalism).

After completing the study of Hegemony, one Explorer should return to a Museum or University on the second continent to excavate any newly available Artifacts. Subsequently, players should transfer all Explorers back to the initial continent to repeat the process until no Artifacts remain present on the map. If executed correctly, players will secure at least 15 Artifacts.

While players can conduct research at Museums and Universities on both continents simultaneously, a phased approach is often more efficient. By breaking the task into four clear stages, players can significantly improve their chances of collecting the 15 Artifacts needed for a Culture Victory. Time is not a pressing concern, and taking the necessary time to prepare is the smartest course of action.

  1. Research and excavate all Exploration Age Artifacts on continent A.
  2. Research and excavate all Exploration Age Artifacts on continent B.
  3. Research and excavate all Antiquity Age Artifacts on continent B.
  4. Research and excavate all Antiquity Age Artifacts on continent A.

If players are still having difficulty gathering enough Artifacts despite following this structured strategy, there are additional avenues to consider. One effective tactic is initiating the campaign during the Antiquity or Exploration Age, allowing players to eliminate rival civilizations until only one remains (preferably with just one settlement). This approach maximizes the chances of securing Artifacts before the remaining civilization can pose a threat.
