Tim Cook Unveils New Siri Launching in 2026 Under the Apple Intelligence Brand

Since the announcement of its AI initiative, Apple Intelligence, there has been a growing sentiment that the tech giant is struggling to meet its ambitious goals. Nonetheless, recent updates have indicated that Apple is making significant strides in the realm of artificial intelligence, particularly highlighted during its Q3 2025 Earnings Call.

Apple Intelligence: Navigating a Complex Path

It’s important to recognize that Apple is actively working on introducing key features under the Apple Intelligence framework, set to debut with the anticipated Spring 2026 iOS update (likely version 26.4).Key advancements include:

  1. In-App Actions
    • With context-based capabilities, Siri will perform tasks within supported apps using voice commands, allowing users to add items to grocery lists, send messages, or play music seamlessly.
  2. Personal Context Awareness
    • Siri will harness personal data to provide tailored services, such as locating a specific podcast mentioned in a conversation within the Messages app.
  3. On-Screen Awareness
    • Enhancements will enable Siri to understand on-screen content, allowing it to execute specific tasks related to what users see.

For users on the macOS platform, many of these functionalities are already accessible through the Sky app—an AI assistant that utilizes advanced AI models. Its capabilities include:

  1. Operating in a floating window that remains accessible above other applications.
  2. Comprehending screen content and executing user commands accordingly.
  3. Performing cross-application actions, such as summarizing a webpage and messaging that summary to a contact.
  4. Creating customized automation scripts and commands to enhance app functionality.

It is noteworthy that OpenAI recently acquired Software Applications Incorporated, the creator of the Sky app, which could influence future developments.

Tim Cook Shares Insights on Apple Intelligence and Siri

Recently, Tim Cook confirmed that Apple is indeed making “good progress”on the new Siri, which is on track for a projected 2026 release under the Apple Intelligence framework. His comments also addressed the integration of other AI models with Siri, affirming that Apple’s goal is to include more AI capabilities over time. Currently, only OpenAI’s ChatGPT is incorporated into Siri’s functionalities.

This indicates that Apple may be preparing for the implementation of the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard established by Anthropic aimed at facilitating smooth interoperability between different AI models and applications.

Despite these advancements, challenges remain for Apple Intelligence. A Bloomberg report from August revealed that engineers were facing difficulties in ensuring Siri’s performance across various applications, particularly in critical sectors like banking. Additionally, Ke Yang, who had just been appointed to lead Apple’s Answers, Knowledge and Information (AKI) team, is reportedly departing for a lucrative position at Meta Platforms Inc.
