Engaging in dangerous online trends is never a wise choice. Reports from Axios indicate that across the United States, students are jeopardizing their safety by actively destroying these devices. The consequences of such actions have escalated to alarming incidents, necessitating school evacuations and early dismissals. The trend, known as the “ChromebookChallenge”on TikTok, features students inserting conductive materials—like paper clips, pencils, pushpins, aluminum foil, and metallic gum wrappers—into the USB ports of their laptops. Such actions can severely damage the lithium-ion batteries within these devices, often culminating in explosions or fires. Multiple incidents have notably been reported in Denver Public Schools, with additional cases cropping up nationwide.
