The recent State of Play broadcast unveiled the highly anticipated game Tides of Annihilation, and we’re excited to present a detailed roundtable Q&A with the developers from Eclipse Glow Games, conducted during Gamescom 2024. Additionally, we’re thrilled to showcase a selection of exclusive screenshots provided by the developers, who appreciate our early interest in their project. Be sure to check out the visuals sprinkled throughout this article!
Tides of Annihilation harnesses the power of Unreal Engine 5 and is being meticulously crafted for both PC and consoles, with an anticipated release in 2026. Set against the backdrop of London, this action-adventure title plunges players into an Outworld invasion, leaving our protagonist, Gwendolyn, as potentially the sole survivor. With the extraordinary ability to summon the iconic Knights of the Roundtable, Gwendolyn embarks on a quest not only to rescue her sister but also to unveil her true lineage and protect both London and the mythical realm of Avalon.

Gameplay and Combat
How does the combat system compare to other games like Devil May Cry or Soulslike titles?
The combat mechanics in Tides of Annihilation lean more towards the fast-paced style of Devil May Cry. Players will appreciate the option to choose their difficulty level, a feature that is not common in most Soulslike games, making it accessible for both casual gamers and hardcore action enthusiasts.
Although we have implemented straightforward controls, there are levels and a skill tree system in place to enhance gameplay without overwhelming players, similar to action RPGs but simpler than builds typically found in Soulslike titles.
In terms of character customization, outfits are purely aesthetic, serving no direct gameplay benefit. However, players will have ample opportunity to collect different types of armor, enriching their gameplay experience.
Platform Availability
Will the game be released across all platforms simultaneously?
Our goal is to achieve a simultaneous launch on all platforms, although this ultimately depends on various development factors.
Combat Styles and Weapons
Will there be variations in playstyle similar to the combat system seen in Devil May Cry?
Absolutely, players can expect diverse playstyles within the game.
Can you elaborate on the weapon types available? How many will players have access to?
Players can wield four types of weapons: fists, swords, bows, and I’ll have to check on the fourth one!

Choosing the Setting
What influenced the decision to select a Western setting for the game?
This game, alongside Black Myth: Wukong, is part of a larger investment strategy by Tencent, which shaped differing expectations for each project. While Black Myth: Wukong is aimed at the Chinese market, our focus here is on Western audiences. The initial concept emerged from discussions around knights, leading to a natural connection with the Arthurian legends.
We’re eager to engage with the Western audience from this early stage, gathering valuable feedback to refine our game before its final release.
Development Progress and Future Plans
What is the current status of game development?
Currently, we are in the Alpha stage, and we anticipate transitioning to Beta by the end of 2024, keeping our sights on a 2026 launch.
Are there plans for future games featuring different protagonists or will you use the same character in each installment?
While we intend to introduce new protagonists in future titles, the overarching theme of the Outworld invasion will remain a constant across our series.

Boss Encounters
How many boss battles can players expect in the game?
Players will face over thirty bosses, each designed with unique abilities that will challenge their skills and strategies.
