Thunderbolts: Full List of Confirmed Cast Members

After years of speculation and anticipation, Thunderbolts* has been officially confirmed, making it the first villain team-up film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Dedicated Marvel enthusiasts have long predicted such a project was in the works, particularly during the MCU’s Phase 4. The official announcement came in July 2022, alongside confirmations of some cast members by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.

This exciting installment will see several MCU actors returning for Thunderbolts*, serving as a sequel to previous projects, including The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Black Widow, Ant-Man and the Wasp, and Captain America: New World Order. The film will gather a roster of antiheroes and reformed villains from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, presenting a darker take on an Avengers-style superhero ensemble.

Confirmed Cast and Character Overview for Thunderbolts*

1. Sebastian Stan as The Winter Soldier

Sebastian Stan first appeared as Bucky Barnes in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger, where he played the childhood friend of Steve Rogers, battling alongside Captain America. After apparently falling to his death, Bucky was captured by Hydra and transformed into the Winter Soldier—an elite assassin and super soldier. He ultimately broke free from this programming following the events of Captain America: Civil War.

Known as the “White Wolf”by the people of Wakanda, who supported his rehabilitation, Bucky has also assisted Sam Wilson in becoming the MCU’s new Captain America. Sebastian Stan is set to reprise his role as Bucky, the Winter Soldier, in Thunderbolts*.

2. Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, the Black Widow

In Black Widow, Natasha Romanoff reconnects with her surrogate family, including her sister, Yelena Belova. Both sisters trained in the Red Room to become Black Widow assassins—while Romanoff joined SHIELD, Yelena was under the command of General Dreykov.

After being liberated in Black Widow, Yelena played a crucial role in dismantling the Red Room. However, she subsequently came under the influence of Valentina, who tasked her with assassinating Clint Barton during the Hawkeye series. Florence Pugh will reprise her role as Yelena Belova in the upcoming MCU film.

3. Wyatt Russell as John Walker, or the US Agent

Wyatt Russell made his Marvel debut portraying John Walker, a character who took over as Captain America following Steve Rogers’ retirement in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

Walker is notorious for his volatile personality and pride, which ultimately twisted him into a darker version of the iconic hero. Following his removal from the Captain America mantle, he was recruited by Valentina and transformed into the US Agent, now enhanced with the super-soldier serum.

4. David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov, the Red Guardian

Another character from Black Widow returning in Thunderbolts* is Alexei Shostakov, also known as the Red Guardian, portrayed by David Harbour. He made his debut in the MCU’s Phase 4 as a Russian supersoldier who received a variant of the super-soldier serum during the Cold War and notably fought for the Soviet military for many years.

After being imprisoned by General Dreykov, Alexei sought vengeance by assisting his daughters in dismantling the Red Room in Black Widow. He is one of three super soldiers featured on the Thunderbolts* team.
