Path of Exile 2 entered early access just over a month ago and has quickly established itself as a solid entry in the action RPG genre. Recently, Grinding Gear Games (GGG) released the first major patch for 2025, which tackled numerous bugs and also integrated significant player feedback. One of the notable improvements allows players to replace Runes and socketable items, addressing a previous pain point regarding the Rune mechanics. With the game already performing well and poised for further growth, three important enhancements can elevate the endgame experience significantly.
After completing the campaign and the Cruel difficulty Acts, players have a wealth of activities awaiting them in Path of Exile 2. The transition to Ziggurat Refuge marks the beginning of navigating higher tiers of Waystones. The Atlas features numerous map nodes that present various League mechanics and modifiers, including different bosses. While the excitement is palpable, there remains potential for GGG to optimize the gaming experience through the introduction of a Waystone stash tab, improved map visibility for biomes on the Atlas, and a less stringent death penalty.
The Case for a Waystone Stash Tab in Path of Exile 2

In Path of Exile 2, players are required to frequently utilize Waystones to navigate the complexities of the Atlas and its obscured areas, as well as to fulfill objectives, such as acquiring Atlas passives or reaching critical locations like the Burning Monolith and the three Citadels. A dedicated stash tab for Waystones would significantly enhance user experience by allowing players to conveniently store and filter their Waystones by keywords and organize them by Tier.
While stash tabs typically come at a cost in Path of Exile 2 (and its predecessor), the introduction of a Waystone stash tab could be presented as a valuable quality-of-life feature that many players would support, even if it required a fee.
Enhancing the Mapping Experience in Path of Exile 2
The recent 0.1.1 patch for Path of Exile 2 improved the Atlas by providing biome information for each map node. However, this feature could be further enhanced by adding short layout videos to each node. These videos could showcase the area and its mini-map, offering players crucial insights into the environment. This enhancement would be particularly beneficial for League mechanics such as Breach or Ritual, which depend heavily on area design. For instance, spawning a Breach in a confined hallway often means the experience may be less rewarding compared to larger, more open areas.
Rethinking the One-Portal Policy in Path of Exile 2
Another aspect of Path of Exile 2 that may require reevaluation is the punitive nature of the death penalty. GGG seemingly aims for a more deliberate and thoughtful combat approach, especially in boss encounters. However, the endgame can become excessively unforgiving; dying at any Waystone results in loss of experience and access to that Waystone and any uncollected loot.
GGG’s philosophy behind this policy is to encourage players to learn and adapt their builds, but this is often challenged by several factors. For instance, making quick gear changes during combat is not always feasible, and there’s a notable absence of a death recap screen to inform players about the circumstances leading to their demise. Additionally, the option to pause games or automatic disconnection issues can inadvertently lead to deaths, further complicating gameplay. Consequently, easing the consequences of death, supplemented by the aforementioned enhancements, would ultimately render Path of Exile 2 a more enjoyable and user-friendly gaming experience.
