THPS 3+4 Guide: Discovering Bikini Bottom Secrets

The iconic world of SpongeBob SquarePants is deeply interwoven into our cultural fabric. Whether you grew up watching the show or are discovering it anew, references to Bikini Bottom resonate with a wide audience. It’s fascinating to see how even non-viewers can recall the whimsical underwater city simply from cultural references.

This cultural pervasiveness means you can effortlessly integrate a SpongeBob reference into various contexts—yes, even in a skateboarding video game! A prime example of this crossover is found in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4, where a hidden section inspired by Bikini Bottom awaits keen-eyed players.

The inclusion of this Easter egg was teased in the game’s reveal trailer, leading players on a treasure hunt for a small piece of Bikini Bottom nestled within the skateboarding tracks. Notably, there are no other SpongeBob elements: no appearances by the beloved character, no thematic music—just a delightful nod to the animated series.

Skater Island Overview

Jumping into the water to find Bikini Bottom in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4

To uncover Bikini Bottom, players need to head to Skater Island, the second competition area from the Pro Skater 3 selection. To unlock Skater Island, complete at least 24 skating goals across all prior levels in the Pro Skater 3 tour, along with securing at least one medal in the first competition level, Rio.

Once on Skater Island, follow these steps:

  • Skate forward across the ramps until you spot a large door on your left.
  • Exit through this door and observe a majestic pirate ship anchored in the water.
  • Ascend the ramp to access the ship’s deck, then navigate the left ramp to the upper level.
  • Continue riding over the front ramp to reach the ship’s bow, then jump onto the bowsprit—yes, that is the term for it!
  • Look out towards the water and you’ll spot a red life preserver alongside a sign for Bikini Bottom. Gain some speed, and if you’re successful in reaching that preserver, you’ll find yourself in Bikini Bottom!

While this hidden area features only five ramps, and falling off will return you to the main map, you can enjoy a visual of SpongeBob’s neighborhood in the distance, including the famous Krusty Krab. Interestingly, it’s supposed to be merely a short walk away from SpongeBob’s house, although the game takes some creative liberties!
