“This whole run has really kind of rejuvenated him” – The Rock has never been bigger than he is now, says ex-WWE writer
The Rock has made his comeback to WWE with a fresh new persona, setting his sights on Cody Rhodes as the latter approaches a potential end to his journey. In the meantime, former lead writer Brian Gewirtz has acknowledged The Great One’s current stint in the organization and commended his recent performances.
Despite his busy schedule, the Hollywood star also took on a role on the board of TKO Group Holdings. As a result, he is now gearing up for the main event of WrestleMania XL Night One, where he and Roman Reigns will go head to head against Cody Rhodes & Seth Rollins.
In an interview with ESPN, Brian Gewirtz emphasized how The Final Boss’ time as a villain in WWE had “revitalized”him.
“This whole run has really kind of rejuvenated him. He is not physically and mentally capable of ever being on autopilot. But there was kind of like this safe zone in the babyface space that is fun and fan-pleasing but isn’t the edgiest of things you can do in a ring with a microphone. Not to the point of bloodying up the number one babyface in WWE and threatening his mother and dog.”
The ex-chief writer of the worldwide powerhouse elaborated on how The Rock’s addition to TKO’s Board of Directors had impacted his performances on-screen.
“It’s like he’s never been bigger than he is now,”Gewirtz added. “He’s part of the board. He just kind of carries a certain weight as opposed to when he came back earlier when he was at a great level, but not this. That’s why The Final Boss feels so organic because it not only is the TKO’s literal final boss, but just the weight of Dwayne Johnson in 2024. It just feels important.”[H/T – ESPN]
According to reports, Gewirtz has been a member of WWE’s creative team for Rocky’s return and continues to collaborate with him outside of the company’s Stamford headquarters.
The Rock to Take a Break from WWE After WrestleMania XL
The Rock’s unexpected comeback to WWE in January 2024 sparked a high-profile feud leading up to WrestleMania XL in Philadelphia. However, there is now speculation surrounding The People’s Champion’s plans after the event.
PWInsider recently reported that the casting process for The Rock’s highly anticipated film, The Smashing Machine, had begun. It is expected that he will take a break from professional wrestling following ‘Mania.
According to an update from ESPN, it appears that The Final Boss will be taking a hiatus from World Wrestling Entertainment following WrestleMania XL. It remains to be seen if the Hollywood megastar will have a significant impact on the company at The Show of Shows before taking a break. Only time will reveal the answer.
