“They’d have statues, streets named after Novak Djokovic”: Fans react as Goran Ivanisevic claims Serb would have ‘a palace for him’ if he were English
Goran Ivanisevic’s remarks about the perceived discrimination against Novak Djokovic based on his nationality have initiated a conversation among supporters.
After a successful five-year partnership that resulted in the doubling of the Serb’s Grand Slam to 24, Ivansevic and Djokovic parted ways amicably. In a recent interview with Sport Klub, the Croat discussed the split and detailed the events that led to their decision.
According to Ivanisevic, there are several reasons why people struggle to accept that the World No. 1 is the greatest of all time. He believes that his background plays a significant role, and he even joked that if he were British, he would have a palace next to Buckingham Palace.
“It has to do with where he’s from, and no one can dissuade me. If he were English, they would build another palace for him next to Buckingham Palace.”
Despite anything that may happen, the 52-year-old stood by his statement that Djokovic is the greatest of all time in his opinion.
“He is the greatest for me – in terms of numbers, and in terms of everything, in terms of tennis.”
The interviewer quoted Ivanisevic’s words, which sparked a conversation among fans. One fan expressed their admiration for the Croat’s comments and even suggested that if he had said them, there would be statues and streets named after him.
“Love it, can you imagine 😂😂😂, they would have statues everywhere and streets named after him.”
A different fan also added that if the Serb were English, he would be receiving more media coverage than Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.
“That is for sure and ATP and tennis channel would be talking about him more than Nadal or Federer”
Additionally, there are other responses from the supporters.
Rafael Nadal to kick off the European clay court season at the 2024 Monte-Carlo Masters
Despite a challenging 2024 season, Novak Djokovic remains determined to bounce back and regain his momentum during the European clay court season. He will start his run on clay at the 2024 Monte-Carlo Masters, a tournament where he has previously been victorious on two occasions.
The top-ranked player’s position will be at risk as he must defend a staggering 2315 points until the Roland Garros tournament. His spot will be targeted by Jannik Sinner (ranked 2nd) and Carlos Alcaraz (ranked 3rd), both of whom will also be competing at Monte-Carlo.
Rafael Nadal, who has been a long-time rival of Djokovic and has won the Monte-Carlo tournament 11 times, is also scheduled to make his comeback at the Masters 1000 event.
