“They are running out of time” – NBA analyst contemplates potential peril looming over Phoenix Suns
Despite the Phoenix Suns trading for Bradley Beal, their chances of winning the title have not been as strong as expected. As the 2023-24 regular season nears its end, the Suns are struggling to secure a spot in the Play-In Tournament. According to NBA analyst Zach Lowe, Phoenix’s hopes for success are dwindling following the major trades.
This season, the Suns have committed over $600 million in total contract value to three players. Devin Booker’s contract is worth $221.09 million over four years, Bradley Beal’s is worth $251 million over five years, and Kevin Durant’s is worth $194 million over four years. According to Lowe, the team’s decision to invest heavily in these players has left no room for other potential acquisitions.
According to Lowe, the ‘biggest disaster’ of the season will be if the Phoenix Suns miss the playoffs.
“This will be the biggest disaster of all whenever there is all in, Phoenix put the chips in, put their mortgage in, put their cards in, they are all in and they are trying to just get out of the Play-In Tournament…Kevin Durant is going to be 36. They’re running out of time, and they went all the way in, and they got no outs.”
Despite having three max contract players on the roster, the Phoenix Suns were limited in their ability to acquire quality role players to support their superstar players. Nonetheless, they decided to bring in Beal, despite his frequent injuries throughout the season.
Despite having Chris Paul on the roster, the Suns have struggled this season due to the lack of a true point guard on the court. Paul’s presence as a certified point guard has helped, but coach Frank Vogel’s decision to primarily use Booker as a point guard has been detrimental to Phoenix.

Kevin Garnett highlights the critical issue facing the Phoenix Suns
Despite having three of the league’s top shooters on their roster, the Phoenix Suns are currently tied with the New Orleans Pelicans for the No. 6 seed in the Western Conference. The difference between their spot and the ninth-seed LA Lakers is only 1.5 games. However, the team has struggled to fully utilize their talented players.
Despite being an NBA champion and Boston Celtics legend, Kevin Garnett expressed disappointment in the Phoenix Suns for their underperformance this season. Additionally, he addressed the injury issues that have hindered the team’s ability to have all three players on the court together.
“You know how you’re not in? when your f*cking record says it,”said Garnett on an episode of Ticket & The Truth podcast. “If y’all ain’t been three-manned up like it was built to be”
Additionally, the ex-NBA players identified the main factor behind the Suns’ underwhelming season.
“You still ain’t got a f*cking point guard. That’s a major issue that nobody wants to address. You got three killers out here and they all got to figure out who bringing the ball up…. you got them thinking when they just wanna be out here gunning and reacting.”
The Phoenix Suns currently hold a record of 45-31 after playing 76 games. As the No. 6 seed in the Western Conference, their position is not guaranteed. The Lakers, Pelicans, and Sacramento Kings are all within two games of the sixth spot and could potentially overtake the Suns.
Additionally, their remaining games are against strong Western teams contending for a playoff spot, making it arguably the most challenging schedule of the season.
