“They Always Made Fun of Me” — Queer Eye’s Bobby Berk Explains His Decision to Skip Dancing with the Stars

Bobby Berk, a prominent figure from Queer Eye, has disclosed that, although he enjoys dancing, he has no intention of participating in Dancing With the Stars (DWTS).

In an interview with Us Weekly during ChainFEST LA on October 7, 2024, the 43-year-old design expert discussed his repeated rejections of DWTS, attributing his hesitance to playful yet impactful remarks from his colleagues.

“For years, they’ve been asking me to join, but I continue to decline because Jonathan [Van Ness] and Karamo [Brown] have made me feel like I’m a terrible dancer for the past nine years,” Berk commented.

Despite reassurances from others about his dancing ability, Berk confessed that the joking from Van Ness and Brown has led him to doubt his own skills.

“While some people tell me I dance well, the teasing from them about my dancing with Antoni [Porowski] always lingers,” he revealed.

This ongoing teasing, particularly concerning his sense of rhythm, has left a lasting impression on Berk.

“I can still hear Jonathan and Karamo whispering, ‘Girl. You have no rhythm,’” he remarked, explaining that these comments significantly contribute to his avoidance of DWTS.

Although DWTS has approached him several times, Berk remains committed to pursuing other projects, as his professional journey expands beyond Queer Eye.

Exploring Bobby Berk: His Reality TV Career Beyond DWTS

Bobby Berk, who gained fame from the Netflix series Queer Eye between 2018 and 2024, is celebrated for his interior design expertise. Through nine seasons, he captivated fans with his talent for transforming living spaces. However, Berk’s journey encompasses much more than just his time on Queer Eye.

Born in Houston, Texas, and later raised in Missouri, Berk navigated various personal and societal challenges growing up as a gay child in a conservative setting.

After leaving home at 15, he took on numerous jobs, including stints at MCI Communications and Applebee’s, before finally finding his niche in the design field. In 2006, he founded his own venture, Bobby Berk Home, and went on to create Bobby Berk Interiors + Design, specializing in upscale interior design.

Berk’s achievements in design opened doors to appearances on networks like HGTV and NBC prior to his rise to fame on Queer Eye. Furthermore, he has expanded his brand with a collection of wallpapers, furniture, and artwork.

Future Projects and Life After Queer Eye

In November 2023, Berk announced his departure from Queer Eye after seven seasons, explaining that it was time for him to explore new ventures.

“I had an amazing seven years, but for me, it was time to move on,” he said during his conversation with Us Weekly.

Since then, Berk has shifted his focus to his design firm and new television projects. His business, Bobby Berk Interiors + Design, plays a crucial role in his career as he continues to seek opportunities in scripted television.

In his personal life, Berk enjoys a fulfilling relationship with his husband, Dewey Do, a facial surgeon.

“One of the perks is that he’s a facial surgeon. The downside? He’s a facial surgeon,” Berk humorously shared, offering glimpses into their life together.

For the moment, fans will have to await Bobby Berk’s new creative pursuits, as his participation in DWTS remains unlikely.
