Exciting Updates on The Witcher IV
In the wake of the unexpected teaser trailer for The Witcher IV, CD Projekt RED has started revealing exciting details about this eagerly awaited open-world RPG. Among the highlights is Ciri’s new role as the protagonist, along with fresh insights regarding her voice actor.
Key Highlights from The Game Awards 2024
During their appearance at The Game Awards 2024 in Los Angeles, CD Projekt RED collaborated with Easy Allies for an in-depth thirty-minute videocast focused on these revelations. One key takeaway was the confirmation of Gwent, the beloved card mini-game, remaining an integral part of the Witcher experience.
Developer Insights
Gosia Mitręga (VP and Executive Producer) shared her enthusiasm, stating:
“We really love the game and we also really carefully always listen to the community, which we love. It’s an amazing one. I don’t think anyone will be disappointed.”
Sebastian Kalemba (Game Director) echoed this sentiment:
“Yeah, for sure. You know, it’s a part of the experience.”
Ciri’s New Powers and Abilities
The discussion later shifted to exciting elements showcased in the teaser, particularly Ciri’s magic chain and her evolving powers. Kalemba elaborated on Ciri’s abilities:
“The chain is not only a utility tool that comes from the school of the Lynx, but also it’s a pretty cool reference to the very first initial trailer we released 20 years ago for Striga, which was inspired heavily by a short story by Andrzej Sapkowski where Geralt is literally using a silver chain to fight a Striga. That’s kind of a segue.”
He further explained Ciri’s significance in the narrative, highlighting her status as a Source, endowed with Elder Blood. This unique ability allows her to manipulate magic similarly to esteemed mages like Yennefer and Triss, enhancing her combat prowess significantly. In a striking scene from the trailer, Ciri draws energy from water, using it to create powerful spells to fend off monsters.
Connection to The Wild Hunt Endings
As the conversation progressed, the Easy Allies presenters inquired about narrative continuity, specifically concerning the various endings available in the previous installment. Kalemba maintained an air of intrigue about the canon ending where Ciri becomes a Witcher:
“We cannot tell you more right now, but definitely, we will refer to The Wild Hunt endings for sure, because we pay a lot of respect to the canon. For us, canon is Andrzej Sapkowski’s literature and, of course, our games. This is one common world. The Witcher IV happens a few years after The Wild Hunt. Geralt will appear, and who knows who else.”
Enhanced Monster Hunting Experience
Another exciting feature that the developers hinted at is an improved monster hunting system, which will be central to gameplay in The Witcher IV. Additionally, they confirmed that the village shown in the trailer, set in the remote North, will be a part of the game world.
