The highly anticipated Season 26 of The Voice made its return with an all-new episode on Monday, October 28, 2024. The third round of the Battles showcased a vibrant mix of talented singers vying for advancement in the competition, with the coaches facing challenging choices, ultimately having to select a single artist from each pairing while saying goodbye to the other.
During this episode, the other coaches had the chance to “steal”eliminated contestants, adding extra drama to the decision-making process. Coach Gwen Stefani matched Felsmere against Cozy Len, leading to a tough choice for her after their performance. Ultimately, Gwen opted to advance Felsmere into the Knockouts, while Cozy Len exited the competition series.
The duo performed Summer Breeze by Seals & Crofts, resulting in mixed reactions from online viewers. Fans took to social media platform X to express their thoughts on the battle, with some raving about Cozy Len’s singing, while others believed Felsmere outshone him.
“That was an incredible performance by cozy len and felsmere,”wrote one enthusiastic fan.
“Great battle… Cozy vs Felsmere,”commented another viewer.
“Summer Breeze, boring,”tweeted a dissatisfied netizen.
Though several fans valued the performance by Felsmere and Cozy Len, numerous comments criticized their matchup, suggesting Gwen made an error by pairing them together.
“Felsmere vs Cozy Len. She gives us that opening moan and launches into the verse, had the coaches singing along. He adds his falsetto, sprinkling it perfectly throughout the melody. He kinda reminds me of Jesse Campbell, that sound and swagger,”observed a passionate viewer.
“They are butchering Summer Breeze!”reacted another user.
“Felsmere/Cozy Len. Vote them both off. Butchering this great song,”another comment lamented.
At the same time, many viewers felt Cozy Len deserved the win, expressing disappointment that none of the other coaches utilized their Steal option to bring him onto their teams.
“Are you serious?!?! Cozy Len should’ve won that battle!! I’m disappointed!”a user voiced.
“Felsmere? Seriously? Cozy Len hands down won that,”commented another fan.
“Unpopular opinion: Felsmere shouldn’t be on. She was on the show before and has an advantage,”noted a viewer.
Standing Ovation for Felsmere and Cozy Len’s Performance from Coach Michael Bublé
Gwen Stefani’s pairing of Felsmere with Cozy Len for the performance of Summer Breeze was intriguing, given their distinct vocal styles. However, Gwen felt that the combination would work harmoniously on stage, honoring the classic track.
Felsmere, known as Kelsey Rey, returned to The Voice after her initial run in Season 1, motivated by the desire to pay tribute to her late father and prove her evolution as an artist. In her first season, she was on Team CeeLo Green but was eliminated during the Battles.
With a goal to make an unforgettable impression, Felsmere was determined to reach the competition’s next level. Choosing Summer Breeze for their performance, Gwen was optimistic that the duo could breathe new life into the beloved ’70s classic.
Felsmere shared that the song held a special place in her heart as it was her mother’s favorite. For Cozy Len, the lyrics were particularly resonant, as they mentioned his wife, Jasmine, multiple times.
As the battle unfolded, both singers captivated the audience with their stage presence, prompting the coaches to sway along to the music. Coach Michael expressed his admiration for their distinct styles, giving the pair a standing ovation while noting they were “perfect in their own lane.”
Although he leaned toward Cozy Len’s vocals, Michael acknowledged Felsmere’s pop sensibility. Conversely, Coach Snoop Dogg favored Felsmere’s performance, declaring her the winner of the battle. Reba McEntire praised both artists, recognizing Cozy Len’s vocal range and Felsmere’s unique timbre.
After weighing the coaches’ feedback, Gwen ultimately declared Felsmere the battle winner, marking the end of Cozy Len’s time on The Voice.
