Coaches’ Feedback on Shye and Jamison’s Battle Performance
Michael Bublé paired Shye with Jamison for their rendition of Love Yourself, believing their “soulful tones”suited the song perfectly. He encouraged both singers to express their narratives through their unique voices.
Jamison shared that he approached the performance as a way to signify leaving his “old life.”He candidly admitted to feeling self-conscious and struggling to accept his identity. However, under Michael’s guidance, he found the strength to embrace who he is, wanting his newborn child to receive that message through his performance.
On the flip side, Shye mentioned that the song posed some challenges due to its reggae elements, which were new territory for her. Nevertheless, she was excited to stretch her capabilities.
The performance received high praise from Coach Snoop Dogg, who called it “dope,”highlighting their ability to reach “big notes”while maintaining a calm presence on certain parts to allow the music to develop. He refrained from deciding on a winner.
Reba McEntire shared Snoop’s sentiment, choosing not to declare a frontrunner. She commended the camaraderie presented by the contestants and appreciated the charming stage arrangement. Gwen Stefani lauded their smooth and warm sound.
“Jamison, you lingered a bit longer on some notes, which felt less syncopated. You have such a gift. But Shye, at just 17, it’s astounding what you just did. You appeared completely at ease,”Gwen noted, adding that it was one of her favorite Battles from the event.
In the end, Michael declared Shye the victor, expressing that he could hear Adele’s influence in her voice. He stated he was truly impressed by her performance and foresaw a bright future ahead for her.
