Explorer Challenge #1 – Find a Treasure Map (Jack Hall Gang Map)

The inaugural Explorer Challenge stands out as the most distinct since it requires players to find a Treasure Map. Numerous paths exist to obtain a Treasure Map in Red Dead Redemption 2, and some prime examples accessible from Chapter 2 onward include:
- **Jack Hall Gang Map**: This map is either robbed from or purchased from Maximo, encountered during the All That Glitters Stranger mission. Maximo can be found west of Flatneck Station, New Hanover. If players miss him, this map can also be obtained at a local Fence.
- **High Stakes Treasure Map**: Discovered through an encounter with an elderly man on a cliff near Lenora View, north of Strawberry in West Elizabeth. Players must rob the man to acquire the map; otherwise, it remains purchasable at a Fence.
- **Poisonous Trail Map**: Located in a lockbox beneath the bed at Cairn Lodge in Cairn Lake, situated east of Colter in Ambarino.
- **Sketched Map**: Found inside the fireplace at Reed Cottage, north of Annesburg in Roanoke Ridge, New Hanover.

Explorer Challenge #2 – Find a Treasure (Jack Hall #1)

With the Jack Hall Map in hand, the next step is heading to Caliban’s Seat, located south of Valentine in New Hanover. Ascend to the top of the cliff and follow the rocky edges down, taking care to maneuver around a few jumps. At the end of the path lies a granite wall where Arthur can uncover the treasure, completing Explorer Challenge #2.
Explorer Challenge #3 – Find a Treasure (Jack Hall #2)
- Loot: $15, Jack Hall Gang Map 3
- Reward: Explorer Bandolier
After completing the first Jack Hall Treasure Map, players will possess the Jack Hall Gang Map 2. To complete Explorer Challenge #3, journey to Cotorra Springs, found north of Fort Wallace and nestled between Window Rock and Bacchus Station in Ambarino. At Cotorra Springs, examine the rock formations between the second ‘o’ and ‘r’ of “Cotorra”to uncover the treasure hidden within.
Explorer Challenge #4 – Find a Treasure (Jack Hall #3)
- Loot: x2 Gold Bars
- Reward: 50 Stamina XP, $10
The concluding Jack Hall Gang Treasure Map, Jack Hall Gang Map 3, should now be at players’ disposal. Completing Explorer Challenge #4 requires players to reach the island at O’Creagh’s Run in the Grizzlies East, Ambarino. Players can either swim or ride a horse to the island’s center, where they will need to investigate the north side of the island next to some moss to find the treasure.
Explorer Challenge #5 – Find a Treasure (Landmark of Riches #1)
- Loot: Gold Earring, Silver Earring, Landmark of Riches Map 2
- Reward: 50 Stamina XP, $10
Having finished the Jack Hall Gang Map series, players will seek a new treasure map, and the Landmarks of Riches Map presents a great opportunity. To locate the first treasure, travel to the Obelisk in West Elizabeth, near Owanjila Lake, situated west of Strawberry. Upon arrival, players should examine the central plaque at the Obelisk to obtain the map. Next, head to the Tiny Church located east of Lakay in Bayou Nwa, Lemoyne, and collect the treasure tucked next to the church bell on the rooftop.
Explorer Challenge #6 – Find a Treasure (Landmark of Riches #2)
- Loot: Gold Jointed Bracelet, Landmarks of Riches Map 3
- Reward: 100 Stamina XP, $15
To secure Landmarks of Riches Map 2, players must visit the Mysterious Hill Home situated north of Bacchus Station in Ambarino. Once there, climb onto the grassy rooftop of the Mysterious Hill Home to interact with the broken window, revealing the treasure and marking the completion of Explorer Challenge #6.
Explorer Challenge #7 – Find a Treasure (Landmark of Riches #3)
- Loot: Silver Chain Bracelet, Landmark of Riches Map 4
- Reward: Explorer Gun Belt
After acquiring Landmark of Riches Map 3 from the Mysterious Hill Home, players will return to Lemoyne to locate the treasure. They should venture to the abandoned battlefield at Bolger Blade in Scarlett Meadows, situated east of Braithwaite Manor and west of Shady Belle. At Bolger Blade, exit the trenches and search around the outlined dead tree where the treasure is hidden.
Explorer Challenge #8 – Find a Treasure (Landmark of Riches #4)
- Loot: x6 Gold Bars
- Reward: 100 Stamina XP, $15
The concluding Explorer Challenge within the Landmarks of Riches set directs players to a frigid destination, necessitating warm attire. To secure Landmark of Riches Map 4, ascend Mount Shann in Big Valley, West Elizabeth. Atop this mountain, just below the ‘S’ in ‘West, ’ players will encounter an old sundial, beneath which lies a treasure waiting to be uncovered. Completing this challenge rewards players with $15 and six Gold Bars.
Explorer Challenge #9 – Find a Treasure (Poisonous Trail #1)
- Loot: $10, The Poisonous Trail Map 2
- Reward: 150 Stamina XP, $20
The penultimate Explorer Challenge beckons players to search for another Treasure Map. To find the Poisonous Trail Map, venture to Cairn Lake in Ambarino, located east of Colter. Inside the abandoned Cairn Lodge, a lockbox beneath the bed holds the coveted Treasure Map. The treasure resides at Face Rock, located north of Rhodes in Scarlett Meadows, Lemoyne, concealed within a dead upright tree near a rock and two fallen trees.
Explorer Challenge #10 – Find a Treasure (Poisonous Trail #2)
- Loot: Spring Bracelet, The Poisonous Trail Map 3
- Reward: Explorer Off-Hand Holster
To conquer the last Explorer Challenge in Red Dead Redemption 2, players armed with the previous Poisonous Trail Map can head south of the Van Horn Trading Post in New Hanover. They will find a mound constructed from rocks and hedges, where the treasure awaits inside a central hole in this rock formation, easily located while traveling between Fort Brennand and Van Horn Mansion.
Upon completing all Explorer Challenges, players should visit the Trapper in Saint Denis to acquire the Explorer Equipment Set, which offers a free bonus level to enhance their Stamina Attribute.
