Solo Leveling Season 2 Perfectly Paces Itself for the Jeju Island Arc
The Anime Boldly Integrates Changes from the Manhwa

In the first season of Solo Leveling, the anime covered 45 chapters within just 12 episodes, averaging less than four chapters per episode—typical for many anime adaptations. As Season 2 aims to encompass the Jeju Island Arc, culminating at chapter 107, it must increase its pace to adapt five chapters for each episode. With the release of episode 3, titled “Still a Long Way to Go, ” the series has reaffirmed its goal to explore the Jeju storyline fully.
The initial two episodes of Season 2 served as a precursor within the film Solo Leveling: Reawakening, showcasing a brisk pace that covered 10 chapters to conclude the Red Gate Arc. Episode 3 adeptly transitions through the Demon Castle Arc, successfully adapting six chapters in just one episode. This shift comes with the challenge of minimizing certain scenes aimed at deepening Jinwoo’s relationships within the narrative.
Despite this, the adaptation maintains a focus on the essential elements of the storyline without feeling hurried or disjointed. Furthermore, upcoming arcs, like the Retesting Rank, could likely be condensed into a single episode, whereas the Hunters Guild Gate and Return to Demon Castle arcs may require two and three episodes, respectively. These arcs involve action-centric sequences that can be conveyed rapidly through animation. This strategic planning leaves four episodes available for a brisk yet comprehensive adaptation of the Jeju Raid, ensuring the arc doesn’t seem rushed.
Season 2 Offers Multiple Hints Leading to the Jeju Island Arc
The Anime Features Numerous References to This Arc

Since the end of the first season, Solo Leveling has hinted at the Jeju Island Arc through various elements. A character design sheet of the Ant King, first introduced in chapter 94, was incidentally leaked during a making-of documentary for the anime adaptation, showcasing the production team’s intention to culminate Season 2 with this arc. The anime also incorporates original scenes to set the stage for Jeju, such as the dialogue between Choi Jong-In and Go Gunhee in the season’s opening episode.
The opening credits further emphasize S-Rank hunters pivotal to the Jeju storyline, and the season’s key visual prominently features Sung Jinwoo in his Jeju raid outfit. Notably, the design cleverly suggests Beru’s silhouette in his hoodie. The inclusion of these references strongly indicates a concerted effort to build anticipation for the Jeju Island Arc without delaying it to future seasons.
The Jeju Island Arc Serves as an Ideal Midpoint for Solo Leveling Season 2
Post-Arc Developments Elevate Solo Leveling’s Narrative

While the potential exists for the anime to present expansive original scenes to explore supporting characters, a strategic narrative cliffhanger could involve concluding the season in the midst of the Jeju Island Arc, just before Jinwoo confronts the Ant King. However, leaving viewers with a strong introduction to the Monarchs would create a more impactful finale, as the Jeju Island Raid marks a critical turning point for Sung Jinwoo. This arc shifts the focus of Solo Leveling from the immediate dangers posed by Gates to a larger narrative involving the Monarchs as central antagonists.
