Lisa Lopes, the acclaimed member of the iconic girl group TLC, has made headlines once again after a viral TikTok video linked her tragic death to pop legends Michael Jackson and Aaliyah. It is important to note that Lopes lost her life in a car accident on April 25, 2002.

This viral TikTok clip was uploaded by the account @YSOLINKA on X (formerly Twitter) on September 28, 2024. The post’s caption reads:

“I usually don’t believe in conspiracy theories but this is crazy.”

In the video, a series of screenshots from Google search results featuring the three celebrities suggested that Aaliyah, Michael Jackson, and Lisa Lopes all met untimely deaths on the same date—the 25th.

This specific date was highlighted in red within the search results screenshots, leading viewers to speculate that there might be a connection between the three unfortunate incidents.

The comments section of the post was filled with various reactions, including a user stating that the coincidence was “too much.”However, others expressed skepticism regarding the link between the similar dates of their deaths.

Lisa Lopes’ tragic car crash and its portrayal in the music video for How Sweet

Originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Lopes tragically died in 2002 while traveling in Honduras. She was in the car with her siblings and two producers when the fatal accident occurred as she was heading back to San Pedro Sula.

Witnesses reported that Lopes suffered fatal injuries after hitting her head, and the others in the vehicle were rushed to Vicente D’Antoni Hospital. Authorities indicated that speeding might have been a factor, resulting in her losing control of the vehicle.

In addition, controversy arose regarding a music video released by the South Korean girl group NewJeans for their single “How Sweet,”which debuted on May 24 this year. A Korean social media user alleged that a scene in the video seemed to recreate the circumstances surrounding Lisa’s car accident.

This contentious sequence appeared at the video’s opening and featured a car of a color similar to the one that Lisa Lopes drove. The scene depicts a vehicle crashing onto the roadside, after which a group member retrieves a Coca-Cola bottle from the car. Notably, footage from Lisa’s accident also included her passing a Coca-Cola box to others inside the vehicle.

While NewJeans did not officially address the controversy, they encountered backlash from some quarters of the public, leading to the video being restricted in 14 countries. Additionally, fans expressed their frustration on social media, noting difficulties accessing the video.

Beyond her musical career, Lisa Lopes was also renowned for her philanthropic endeavors and had plans to establish educational centers for children before her tragic passing.
