Sung Jin-Woo, a pivotal character in Solo Leveling, has undergone a remarkable transformation from being known as “The Weakest Hunter of All Mankind”to one of the most formidable figures in the series. His newfound powers emerged after his fateful meeting with Yoo Jin-Ho, who has played an indispensable role in Jin-Woo’s journey. But how would Jin-Woo’s path have shifted had he not formed this alliance?
In the competitive landscape of the Solo Leveling world, hunter ranks are crucial. Upon their initial encounter, Jin-Ho held a D-Rank status, while Jin-Woo was languishing at E-Rank. Initially, this disparity placed Jin-Ho in a position of superiority; however, it quickly became evident that Jin-Woo far exceeded expectations. Their dynamic began with Jin-Ho viewing Jin-Woo as a superior but swiftly morphed into a genuine friendship akin to brotherhood.
A Bond Forged in Peril

Their first significant interaction occurred in Season 1, Episode 5. Jin-Ho presented himself as a laid-back and somewhat naïve character, yet his genuine nature shone through as he tried to encourage Jin-Woo. He assured Jin-Woo of his protection. However, within the depths of a C-Rank dungeon, Jin-Ho was left astounded as Jin-Woo single-handedly vanquished the dungeon’s boss. This unexpected display of power instilled fear in Jin-Ho, who assumed he was working alongside a ruthless hunter leading a violent existence. Consequently, he began referring to Jin-Woo as “boss”and offered to serve him in exchange for protection.
Their burgeoning relationship faced a test when adversaries, Dong-Suk and his crew, attempted to eliminate Jin-Woo. Defying orders, Jin-Ho chose to support Jin-Woo, despite being outnumbered. This decision led to Jin-Woo’s decisive victory over the threats, allowing them both to escape the dungeon unscathed. Subsequently, when questioned, Jin-Ho shielded Jin-Woo’s secret abilities, attributing their success to Jin-Ho’s impressive gear.
A Critical Partnership

After their perilous experience, Jin-Ho approached Jin-Woo again with an ambitious plan: to conquer 19 dungeons in pursuit of his Guild Master ambitions. Despite attractive financial incentives, Jin-Woo declined, motivated by a personal quest to obtain the Elixir of Life to save his mother. However, to attain his own strength, Jin-Woo recognized the necessity of clearing challenging dungeons, leading him to accept Jin-Ho’s offer with the stipulation of a partnership that would keep their endeavors hidden.
Hypothetical: What If They Never Met?

The absence of their encounter would have profoundly impacted both characters. Jin-Woo’s progress would have stagnated significantly, making it nearly impossible for him to clear C-Rank dungeons or achieve the necessary strength to confront the Demon Castle. Concurrently, Jin-Ho would have found it hard to navigate his path toward becoming a Guild Master without the combat experience gained through their collaboration. Their journeys are tightly intertwined, crucial to each other’s growth.
With every dungeon they conquer together, Jin-Woo continues to ascend in power—now attaining S-Rank status. The question remains: does he still require Jin-Ho’s friendship, or will their bond begin to fade as Jin-Woo stands on the cusp of unleashing his full potential?
