The Rock names the man who he thinks has been carrying WWE for years

Despite not being a regular presence in WWE over the past decade, The Rock made a highly anticipated return in 2024 with a series of appearances leading up to his first match in eight years and first legitimate match in 11 years. During this time, he publicly acknowledged the individual he believes has been carrying WWE.

The Rock and his cousin Roman Reigns made an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to promote WrestleMania 40 and the highly anticipated main event on Saturday evening.

The Rock commended Roman Reigns for his years of carrying WWE and discussed his return to the grind. He also marveled at the record-breaking gate on April 1st, 2024 during WWE RAW, reflecting on the incredible feat they had accomplished.

He stated:

“Now that I’m back, and in the grind of it all, as he [Roman Reigns] has been, for years now, carrying the company, things like that [record-breaking RAW gate], you try to stay as present as possible because it moves, and the very next night, you’re at someplace else in a different city. But we had to take a moment last Monday, just to recognize how cool it is that we’re in this position. We both came from wrestling in flea markets and used car dealerships, to making $40 a match to making a little bit more than that. This guy is the champion and times are good.”(3:55-4:34)

Dwayne Johnson Gets Emotional as He Shares a Heartfelt Tribute to His Father

During his appearance on The Brahma Bull’s show, Jimmy Fallon shared a throwback to his first WrestleMania appearance in 1997. He had faced off against The Sultan (Rikishi), and during the match, his father, the late great Rocky Johnson, had come out to support him.

Upon reflection, The Rock became noticeably moved while discussing the moment that he would never forget.

“That’s my dad. That was amazing. That was very special. My dad who passed away unexpectedly in 2020, he always said that was the most special moment in his entire career. It was really awesome.”

In addition, he mentioned that The Sultan was his cousin Rikishi, who is also the father of The Usos and Solo Sikoa.

The WrestleMania in question was also the site of the legendary double turn by ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin and Bret Hart, considered by many to be the greatest in wrestling history.
