The Rings of Power Season 2 Finale Might Finally Reveal the Stranger’s Identity

The Rings of Power features a diverse array of characters, which means not all of them receive focus in each episode. Consequently, the Stranger and Tom Bombadil have been largely absent in recent installments, which primarily highlight Sauron’s manipulations and Adar’s tactical moves.

However, the early episodes of season 2 hint at the Stranger evolving into a pivotal character in Middle Earth. Tom Bombadil, the most insightful figure in this universe, foretells that the Stranger has a vital part to play in the escalating conflict of good versus evil.

Those familiar with J. R. R. Tolkien’s work might already suspect that the Stranger is, in fact, Gandalf. The season 2 finale may finally confirm his identity as Sauron’s grip on Middle Earth intensifies.

Sauron Is Likely to Prevail—At Least for Now

This is one spoiler that many fans of the Tolkien universe might expect from the finale. In episode 7, Celebrimbor completes the creation of the nine rings for men, and by the episode’s conclusion, he pierces through Sauron’s disguise.

The finale of The Rings of Power season 2 might lead to the demise of Celebrimbor. According to the source material, Sauron brutally tortures the ring-maker, subjecting him to humiliation before ultimately killing him. This harrowing fate could very well be mirrored in the Amazon Prime adaptation.

Moreover, Sauron will likely seize control of the nine rings (which are in Galadriel’s possession at the episode’s end) and distribute them among the most corrupt leaders of men, heralding a reign of terror in Middle Earth. Overall, the finale could set the stage for a climactic battle between Sauron and Gandalf, priming viewers for subsequent seasons.

Currently, tensions run high among the dwarves in The Rings of Power season 2. King Durin, enchanted by the ring, has been making reckless decisions that have displeased his subjects and increased friction with Prince Durin. If Sauron succeeds, it could spell further disaster for the dwarves, who find themselves on the brink of civil war.

Meanwhile, the elves are actively confronting Adar and Sauron. In episode 7, they valiantly defend Eregion from the orc onslaught and safeguard the three rings with tenacity. Their efforts represent the only barrier preventing Middle Earth from descending into tyranny. The season 2 finale may reveal just how long the elves can withstand Sauron’s advances.

What Lies Ahead for Men?

Throughout much of The Rings of Power season 2, Sauron has been manipulating Celebrimbor under the guise of Annatar. Consequently, Celebrimbor has inadvertently completed the nine rings for men. Although these rings are currently safe with Galadriel, Celebrimbor himself has been captured by Sauron.

In Númenor, the situation has taken a dramatic twist. Initially popular, Pharazôn is now regarded as a disgraced leader due to his increasingly autocratic behavior.

As a result, the people have reinstated Mirien as their ruler. If Sauron manages to obtain the rings, Pharazôn may regain power, specifically targeting those leaders of men who are most susceptible to his influence.

The Rings of Power season 2 finale is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on October 3, 2024.
