The Rings of Power Season 2 Episode 7 Ending Explained: Is Arondir’s Fate Sealed?
The Rings of Power season 2 episode 7 premiered on Amazon Prime Video on September 26, 2024. The conclusion of the previous episode hinted at the looming siege of Eregion led by Adar’s army, and in this installment, viewers see the siege in full effect.
The episode synopsis for episode 7, titled Doomed to Die, states:
“Eregion’s fate is decided.”
The episode begins with Celebrimbor engrossed in crafting the nine rings for men, oblivious to the chaos unfolding in Eregion due to Sauron’s spell. Concurrently, Elrond meets with Prince Durin, imploring him to send a Dwarf army to assist Eregion.
However, as the narrative progresses, Elrond’s hopes are shattered when the Dwarf army fails to arrive. Adar invades Eregion and stabs Arondir in the torso, but it remains uncertain if the wound is fatal.
The Rings of Power season 2 episode 7 ending: Arondir is gravely injured but likely alive
At the beginning of this episode, Gil-galad and Elrond lead an Elf army into Eregion to thwart Adar’s destruction. However, Adar reveals that Galadriel is his captive, prompting the Elves to stop their charge.
Adar demands Galadriel’s ring from Elrond, who declines. Instead, Elrond seeks out Prince Durin, leading to one of the most poignant scenes in The Rings of Power season 2, where the old friends reunite. Elrond requests Durin to commandeer a Dwarf army to combat the orcs under Adar’s command.
As the episode approaches its conclusion, Adar wreaks havoc in Eregion, aided by Damrod, a hill-troll. Although Damrod is eventually defeated by the Elves, Adar’s advance remains relentless. Elrond retains hope for the Dwarves’ timely arrival.
In Khazad-dum, King Durin exhibits erratic behavior since donning the ring, pressuring his men to escalate mining operations, leading to internal conflict within the kingdom. Consequently, Prince Durin is unable to lead the anticipated Dwarf army to Eregion.
When it becomes apparent that the Dwarves will not assist, Elrond is devastated. Adar presses forward, aiming to seize Galadriel’s ring from Elrond. In a struggle, Arondir attempts to resist and is stabbed by Adar.
The scene does not confirm Arondir’s death; instead, as the camera pans away, he is seen crawling and attempting to rise. This suggests that although his injury is severe, it is likely not fatal. The fate of Arondir may be further revealed in the finale of The Rings of Power season 2.
Celebrimbor uncovers Sauron’s true identity in episode 7
In the recent episode of The Rings of Power season 2, Celebrimbor finally discerns that Annatar is actually Sauron. Because of Sauron’s influence, Celebrimbor had previously been unaware that Eregion was under siege by orcs.
However, the spell is briefly broken, allowing Celebrimbor to perceive the reality around him. When he confronts Sauron with his discovery, Sauron cryptically threatens him. Despite this, Celebrimbor completes the nine rings for men.
Afterward, he is imprisoned by Sauron but manages to escape, giving the nine rings to Galadriel, who also breaks free from Adar’s clutches. Following this, he returns to face Sauron with guards, who are swiftly overcome by Sauron, who demands the rings from Celebrimbor.
In J.R.R. Tolkien’s source material, Sauron tortures and kills Celebrimbor; it remains to be seen what fate awaits him in the finale of The Rings of Power season 2.
Galadriel’s storyline continues to evolve
In The Rings of Power season 2 episode 5, Adar invited Galadriel to unite against Sauron, but her refusal resulted in her imprisonment. In episode 7, Elrond also declines to surrender Galadriel’s ring to Adar. Instead, he bids her farewell, kissing her as a pretense while secretly handing her a pin.
Using the pin, Galadriel escapes. In the city, she encounters Celebrimbor for the first time in The Rings of Power season 2, and both recognize they have fallen victim to Sauron’s deception. Celebrimbor entrusts the rings to her before confronting Sauron himself.
As the episode concludes, Galadriel is seen alongside the Elves. However, the final moments reveal that Adar has succeeded in obtaining her ring, which she had entrusted to Elrond for safekeeping.
The season finale of The Rings of Power season 2 will be available on Amazon Prime Video on October 3, 2024.
