The Platform 2 is a Spanish science fiction thriller directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia. Serving as a sequel to the 2019 film The Platform, this new installment delves deeper into the harrowing lives of inmates trapped in “The Pit.”The Platform 2 made its debut at the 72nd San Sebastián International Film Festival in the “Culinary Zinema”section.

The film became available for streaming on Netflix starting October 4, 2024. Continuing the theme of body horror prevalent in the original movie, The Platform 2 explores the insatiable hunger that plagues the prisoners. This time, the narrative introduces a new character named Perempuan, who becomes embroiled in the brutal politics within The Pit.

The strict regulations governing the tower are enforced by a cult known as the Loyalists, led by a blind leader named Dagin Babi. Dagin ensures that every inmate receives their deserved portion of food, extending to the lowest levels of The Pit. However, violation of these rules results in severe, often deadly punishments.

In this extreme environment, prisoners face the moral dilemma of obeying the tyrannical orders or succumbing to starvation. The Platform 2 features a remarkable cast, introducing new characters while also bringing back familiar faces.

1) Milena Smit as Woman

Milena Smit stars as Perempuan, the film’s central character. A troubled artist grappling with guilt, Perempuan willingly enters The Pit to delay her fate. The story kicks off as she awakens on the 24th floor, sharing her cell with a menacing giant.

Born in Elche, Spain, Milena made her acting debut in 2020 in Cross the Line. Her recent credits include Parallel Mothers (2021), Dragonflies (2022), The Girl in the Mirror (2022), Tin & Tins (2023), and The Snow Girl (2023).

2) Hovik Keuchkerian as Zamiatin

Hovik Keuchkerian portrays Zamiatin, who shares a cell with Perempuan. Initially appearing as a hot-headed giant with a penchant for pizza, Zamiatin’s intelligence reveals itself as the plot unfolds.

Hovik, of Armenian and Spanish heritage, is an actor, author, comedian, and former boxer. He has an impressive array of credits including Scorpion in Love (2013), Isabel (2013), The Ministry of Time (2015), Assassin’s Creed (2016), 4 Latas (2019), Amerikatsi (2022), Un Amor (2023), and Red Queen (2024).

3) Natalia Tena as Friend

After being moved to the 180th floor, Perempuan encounters her new one-armed roommate, Sahabat. Initially mistaking Sahabat for a newcomer, Perempuan soon learns that her cellmate has been entrenched in The Pit for longer and can guide her in challenging the Loyalists while revealing her own dark history.

Natalia Tena, a British actress and musician, is best known for her roles as Osha in HBO’s Game of Thrones and Nymphadora Tonks in the Harry Potter series. Her other notable credits include Ambassadors (2013), 10,000 km (2014), Amar (2017), I Love You, Stupid (2020), and John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023).

4) Óscar Jaenada as Dagin Babi

Óscar Jaenada plays the role of Dagin Babi, the film’s primary antagonist. A blind man with a beard, he founded the Loyalists and orchestrates the prison’s restrictive rules to ensure fair food distribution among inmates, while enforcing harsh penalties for those who defy the system.

A veteran actor, Óscar began performing in Shakespearean plays at just thirteen. He is acclaimed for his portrayal of Camarón de la Isla in Camarón: When Flamenco Became Legend (2005). His recent works include Gold (2017), Luis Miguel: The Series (2018), Rambo: Last Blood (2019), Hernán (2019), Xtremo (2021), and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon (2024).
