In The Outer Worlds 2, players are greeted with a plethora of engaging quests that elevate the original experience into a richer, more expansive universe. One of the standout features in this game is the introduction of bounties—shorter missions where you must hunt down specific targets to earn rewards.
While these tasks may appear to be straightforward, the execution can often prove challenging. Fortunately, I am here to guide you through one of your early opportunities: the Diabolical Drones Of Doom bounty. You’ll encounter this quest shortly after you complete the game’s introduction and touch down on Eden for the first time.
Completing Diabolical Drones Of Doom
As the first bounty players can tackle in The Outer Worlds 2, accepting this mission might be confusing if you’re still acclimating to the various elements of the game. Upon your arrival in Fairfield, a female character at the settlement gates will provide you with information about the bounty terminal available nearby. Keeping track of new instructions can be overwhelming given the abundance of details presented to you.
Locate the bounty terminal indicated on your map, and interact with it to view the current available bounties. At this point, there will only be one—an assignment to eliminate a group of malfunctioning drones. After accepting the task, make sure to mark Diabolical Drones Of Doom as your active quest in your journal. This will help you navigate toward your target area.
However, the map will display a broad search radius rather than a precise target location. As you approach the designated area, you’ll need to explore to find the correct group of drones that require your attention.
As you traverse the landscape, you’ll encounter a towering mountain with impassable cliffs on one side. To successfully reach your destination, loop around the right side of the mountain until you arrive at the target area.
During your journey, you might encounter a couple of rogue drones, which you can choose to engage or avoid as you see fit. To complete this bounty, however, you only need to defeat a specific group of drones.
At your destination, you’ll discover a fenced enclosure filled with buzzing drones. With stealth being nearly impossible here, prepare for a full-on fight, as you’ll face approximately twenty drones in waves. My suggestion is to enter the fray boldly—utilizing a repeating rifle can be an effective strategy for overcoming these mechanical foes.
After successfully dispatching the drones and looting their remains, a new map marker will guide you back to the bounty terminal in Fairfield. While returning, be mindful of the remaining hostile drones in the vicinity; they are generally not a significant threat, but it’s wise to stay alert.
Rewards for Your Effort
Upon returning to the bounty terminal, proceed to interact with it and select the option to claim your reward. Here’s what you will receive for completing this mission:
- 270 XP
- 350 Bit Cartridges (in-game currency)
- 1 Advanced Decryption Key
The most notable reward is the Advanced Decryption Key, which is likely the first of its kind that you’ll encounter in the game. Make sure to store this valuable item for future use, as it enables access to “High Security Lockboxes, ”which you can open in exchange for one Advanced Decryption Key.
