This week, the official X account of the game shared comprehensive details on the required PC hardware categorized into minimum, recommended, and a new “ideal”tier. According to Microsoft, the ideal setup will require at least 64GB of RAM and a 100Mbps internet connection. Below are the hardware necessities for optimal gameplay settings:
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 PC Hardware Requirements
Minimum Requirements
- Operating System: Windows 10 (with latest updates)
- Direct X Version: DX12
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600X / Intel Core i7-6800K
- GPU: Radeon RX 5700 / GeForce GTX 790
- VRAM: 4GB
- RAM: 16GB

Interestingly, the system requirements do not specify monitor resolution settings for any of the hardware tiers, nor do they clarify whether an SSD would enhance the game’s performance. There is also no mention of support for ultrawide monitors or multi-monitor configurations.
Another noteworthy detail from the specifications is the relatively low storage requirement of 50GB. According to an FAQ page, Microsoft will utilize cloud servers to stream content directly to your PC.
When users enter the simulator, only the textures, meshes, and map data necessary for gameplay will be downloaded, minimizing unnecessary bandwidth and disk space usage. This approach will help maintain the low minimum specifications of the simulator and reduce both update and load times.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is scheduled for release on November 17 for PC and Xbox Series X and S consoles. The Standard Edition will be available on Day One for PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Microsoft plans to offer four editions of the game, including an Aviator’s Edition featuring 125 planes, priced at $199.99.
