The Masked Singer Season 12: Unmasking Updates and Revealed Contestants

The Masked Singer season 12 debuted on September 25, introducing a fresh cast of celebrities donning eye-catching costumes. A total of fifteen masked singers are vying for the coveted title, and this season features an exciting new twist: celebrity “Masked Ambassadors.”

These former contestants, known as Masked Ambassadors, provide the initial and most significant clue regarding each performer’s identity, enhancing the mystery of the guessing game.

The panelists—Ken Jeong, Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg, and Rita Ora—have returned, with host Nick Cannon keeping the audience on their toes with hints about new surprises.

So far, two unmaskings have taken place in the first two episodes of The Masked Singer: Leaf Sheep in the premiere episode and Showbird in episode two.

Unmasked Performers of The Masked Singer Season 12

NFL Hall of Famer John Elway, portrayed as Leaf Sheep in season 12, was the first celebrity unveiled. He performed “I Like It, I Love It”by Tim McGraw before being eliminated in the premiere episode.

The panelists made their guesses, with Robin Thicke speculating it was Troy Aikman, Ora suggesting Billy Bob Thornton, Jeong betting on John Elway, and McCarthy-Wahlberg leaning toward Tom Brady.

In the end, Jeong correctly guessed the identity, as Leaf Sheep was unmasked to reveal John Elway. “Ken was right!”Cannon cheered. The retired NFL star, Elway, remarked:

“I’m not sure. I was definitely not in my comfort zone doing this. But you know, I’m in retirement now. I had the opportunity and took advantage of it.”

In episode two, Showbird was the next contestant to be eliminated after performing “Let’s Hear It for the Boy”by Deniece Williams. Beneath the colorful feathers of Showbird was actress Yvette Nicole Brown.

Brown is widely recognized for her role in Community and shares a special connection with the judging panel, particularly Ken Jeong, her former co-star.

Showbird’s Masked Ambassador was Joel McHale, another alum of Community. She described her experience on The Masked Singer as both enjoyable and meaningful, stating:

“Music is very important to me, and it was my first love.”

Brown, who has a history with Motown, expressed that while she had a blast, she also experienced emotional moments due to personal issues, including worries about her father’s health during filming.

“Some of it felt heavy because I’m singing, but I’m thinking, ‘is daddy OK,’”she shared with Variety on October 2, 2024. “But by the time I was revealed, I was able to kind of let that all out.”

Who Remains in The Masked Singer Season 12?

With two celebrities unmasked, the competition heats up with the remaining masked performers. Those still competing include Buffalo, Strawberry Shortcake, Woodpecker, Bluebell, Macaron, Wasp, Ice King, Royal Knight, Dust Bunny, Goo, Ship, and Chess Piece.

Each episode will witness another celebrity bid farewell, but the contestants are determined to stay in the game and avoid elimination. This season features diverse themes in each episode, such as Miley Cyrus Night, Barbie Night, and Footloose Night, where fans can expect surprise celebrity appearances like Kevin Bacon.

Fans of The Masked Singer can look forward to more shocking celebrity revelations and unmaskings as season 12 unfolds. Nick Cannon has touted this season of The Masked Singer as “our biggest season yet.”
