The Masked Singer Season 12 Episode 2 Recap: Ken Identifies Celebrity for Two Consecutive Nights

The Masked Singer season 12 episode 2 premiered on October 2, 2023, on FOX. This popular reality singing competition features celebrities showcasing their vocal talents while keeping their identities concealed from both the audience and the judges.

In this episode titled “Footloose Night,”contestants Showbird, The Ship, Woodpecker, and Buffalos performed memorable songs from the classic film Footloose. Unfortunately, Showbird received the fewest votes and was unmasked, revealing Ken Jeong’s correct guess of Yvette Nicole Brown for the second time this season.

The episode’s synopsis stated:

“Cut loose with ‘Footloose Night’ as The Masked Singer celebrates the 40th anniversary of the iconic film! Panelist Robin Thicke opens the evening with a showstopping rendition of Kenny Loggins’ ‘Footloose,’ prompting the panel to bust a move! Tune in to see the four celebrities from Group A belt out fan-favorite songs from the movie soundtrack.”

Showbird

In The Masked Singer season 12 episode 2, Showbird kicked off the night with a clue package, sharing that her journey into singing was ignited by a love interest, emphasizing her commitment to every performance. Her visual clues included binoculars, colorful diamond rings, and a purple cupcake.

Showbird performed “Let’s Hear It For the Boy”by Deniece Williams. Following her performance, the last clue revealed a music box set to a hip-hop tune, which Showbird noted was her vibe, stating she was “part of a hip-hop empire!”back in ’94.

The judges made their guesses for Showbird: Ken Jeong guessed Yvette Nicole Brown, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg speculated Taraji P. Henson, and Rita Ora thought it could be Sheila E.

The Ship

The Ship followed with their own clue package, revealing she was a “star cheerleader, class president, and prom queen”in high school. A leg injury sidelined her for a year, leading her to discover music through playing the piano.

Visual clues for The Ship included a black crow perched on a piano, a boot cast, white cowboy boots, and a red heart.

They performed “Almost Paradise”by Mike Reno & Ann Wilson. After their performance, Jenny named The Ship as “the frontrunner”in this competition. The judges made their guesses: Ken – Sheryl Crow, Robin Thicke – Amy Grant, and Rita – Kate Bush.

Woodpecker

In her clue package, Woodpecker alluded to being a child star who had to grow up under public scrutiny, facing judgment and direction from others. Her visual clues consisted of shimmering heels, a director’s chair, a briefcase, and a rubber ducky.

Woodpecker sang “Holding Out For a Hero”by Bonnie Tyler. The panel guessed Woodpecker’s identity as follows: Ken – Willow Smith, Jenny – Regina King, and Rita – Letitia Wright.

The Buffalos

The Buffalos closed the night with their performance. In their clue package, they shared their identity as rebels, noting that while others may view them as “corny,”they consider themselves “funny”and “rich.”

Their visual clues included beer mugs, a cactus, poker chips, and a black bottle labeled “Poison.”

The Buffalos delivered “Waiting For a Girl Like You”by Foreigner. The judges guessed loudly with Ken suggesting Bell Biv DeVoe, Jenny guessing 112, and Robin thinking about Rush.

In a twist of fate, Showbird ended up receiving the fewest votes and was unmasked as Community star Yvette Nicole Brown.
