“The Irony” – Fans React to Rick Ross Achieving 1 Billion Spotify Streams for Drake’s “Money In The Grave” Amid Ongoing Feud
Drake’s collaboration with Rick Ross, titled “Money In The Grave,”played a significant role in Ross achieving his first billion streams on Spotify. This milestone occurred just months after their public feud, which involved both artists releasing diss tracks aimed at one another. The song was featured on Drake’s 2019 EP, “The Best in the World Pack,”along with another track.
Released on June 15, 2019, “Money In The Grave”celebrated the Toronto Raptors’ inaugural NBA championship win. By August, the track had claimed the top position on Billboard’s Rhythmic Songs chart. Additionally, in the same month, the duo collaborated on a music video that currently boasts over 63 million views on YouTube.
As word spread about Drake’s song contributing to Rick Ross’s first billion Spotify streams, many social media users highlighted the irony given their previous conflicts.
Numerous commenters suggested that Rick Ross’s success was largely attributable to Drake, describing it as “wild”that he distanced himself from the Canadian rapper simply for social media attention.
“Drake literally paved the way for his biggest hits; I’m in disbelief,”one user remarked.
“Rick Ross’s entire career has genuinely been supported by Drake. It’s outrageous to sever ties for just a fleeting moment of fame,”another user tweeted
“He literally handed over his chart-topping hits,”a different commenter stated.
In contrast, many praised Drake’s remarkable streaming achievements, asserting that they set him apart from the rest.
“Drake’s streaming statistics are just on another level,”one person said.
“Statistically, Drake is the greatest rapper in history. He boasts 16 songs with over a billion streams,”another user commented.
Nonetheless, others congratulated both Ross and Drake on this monumental achievement.
“That’s truly incredible; congratulations to both of them,”one tweet read.
“Rick Ross always delivers great music; this award is well-deserved,”somebody else added.
“Kudos to both him and Drake for this achievement,”another netizen expressed.
Drake’s Diss Track Inferred His Contributions to Rick Ross’s Hits
The discord between Drake and Rick Ross surfaced after years of collaboration. The feud reportedly ignited when Ross unfollowed Drake on Instagram, following Metro Boomin and Future’s album “We Don’t Trust You,”which included Ross on a track, released in March 2024.
The collective effort featured “Like That,”a song with Kendrick Lamar that initiated the rift with Drake. In response, Drake released “Push Ups”in April, targeting not only Lamar but also Ross, The Weeknd, and Metro Boomin.
In the diss track, Drake implied that he was the catalyst behind Ross’s numerous chart-topping hits, delivering lines such as:
“I might take your latest girl and cuff her like I’m Ricky/ Can’t believe he jumpin’ in, this n***a turnin’ fifty/ Every song that made it on the chart, he got from Drizzy/ Spend that lil’ check you got and stay up out my business.”
Shortly after, Rick Ross retaliated with “Champagne Moments,”where he accused Drake of undergoing cosmetic surgery and relying on ghostwriters. Furthermore, he labeled Drake as a cultural opportunist, frequently referring to him derogatorily as a “white boy”throughout the song.
Rick Ross also coined the phrase “BBL Drizzy”to mock the Canadian artist on social media, referencing rumors about Drake’s cosmetic procedures. This term gained traction after Metro Boomin released a diss beat titled “BBL Drizzy,”coinciding with the conclusion of Drake’s feud with Lamar.
In May, Drake name-checked Ross again in another diss track, “Family Matters,”alluding to Ross’s former work as a correctional officer. To date, Ross has not issued a further response.
