Contestants had the option to either draw inspiration from classic biscuit recipes or innovate with their own creations, ensuring that caramel was the star of the dish.

Dutch competitor Christiaan presented Spiced Nut Stroopwafel Caramel Biscuits, while Nelly delivered Good Old Times Caramel Biscuits. Although both creations were lauded for their taste, Nelly fell short with the texture of her biscuits.

Sumayah introduced her unique Sesame Hibiscus Caramel Biscuits. Judge Paul commented on their texture, noting they were “not really set”yet complimented their flavors.

Andy impressed the judges with his A Bit of a Fix Caramel Biscuit, while Prue appreciated Georgie’s Favourite Chocolate Bar, describing it as “really neat and nice.”Dylan, who was last week’s star baker, showcased Oats with Pineapple Caramel Biscuits, and Illyin contributed Almond Florentine Caramel Biscuits, both gaining positive remarks for their presentations.

Mike’s creation, Dad’s Favourite Caramel Biscuits, and Gill’s Fruit & Nut Millionaire Caramel Biscuits were noted for their flavors, yet both displayed notable baking missteps, disappointing the judges.

The technical round followed, where contestants were tasked with crafting pear tart tatin accompanied by walnut caramel ice cream. The judges ranked the bakers in the following order:

  1. Georgie
  2. Christian
  3. Sumayah
  4. Illyin
  5. Dylan
  6. Nelly
  7. Mike
  8. Gill
  9. Andy

The final challenge of the week required the bakers to craft a caramel mousse cake, presenting them with a crucial opportunity to secure their place in the competition. Here’s what each contestant produced for this showstopper challenge:

  • Georgie: ‘Glass Rose Mirror’ Mousse Cake
  • Andy: ‘Lonely Tree’ Mousse Cake
  • Sumayah: ‘Banoffee Pecan’ Mousse Cake

  • Nelly: ‘Behind Every Great Woman’ Mousse Cake
  • Mike: Coffee Popcorn Mousse Cake
  • Illyin: Caramel and White Chocolate Mousse Cake

  • Christiaan: ‘Tropica Caramel’ Mousse Cake

Georgie succeeded in wowing the judges with her performance throughout the competition, earning ultimate praise for her mousse cake’s professional appearance, which led her to be named Star Baker for Week 4.

Unfortunately for Mike, the week ended on a low note, as Prue highlighted that his mousse cake lacked the essential mousse element. Due to a disappointing performance during Caramel Week, he became the fourth contestant to be eliminated from the series.

Looking ahead, the upcoming episode of The Great British Bake Off will feature the bakers tackling Pastry Week, set to air on October 22, 2024, on Channel 4 in the UK, and October 25, 2024, for US viewers.
